Chapter 82 - An Honest Answer

Hearing the question Marco simply looked Thanatos in the eyes. He contemplated his answer, he wanted to give an honest reply to Thanatos.

He knew if he wanted to he would have fallen under Thanatos's scythe when he was incapacitated earlier.

"I want to give you an honest reply, I hope you know that." Marco spoke his voice hard and face devoid of any emotions. Frankly that look scared Thanatos to the core.

In his head, Thanatos was imagining horrific scenes where Marco would wreak havoc in hell. If what he saw was accurate he estimates that the monster could wage war with the entire Greek Pantheon.

"Thanatos I am not anyone's enemy. My only goal is to protect and love my wives. I will fight with whoever threatens this dear wich of mine."

Marco words made Thanatos glare harder. He didn't believe Marco's words now, why?

It was the experience he just had by simply analysising Marco in an attempt to help the man.

That feeling of standing in that horrific space was simply traumatic, if even a powerful death god like himself felt like this...

What would happen if that 'THING' was unleashed on the world? From what he knew the Norse pantheon and the Egyptian hell were now trying to 'test' the man.

"If you truly are not an enemy of the world then would you take a simple test?" Thanatos asked cautiously, he didn't want to antagonise Marco.

As he showed compassion towards Cerbi, showed concern towards himself when it looked like he was being devoured. And finally the respect he was shown during their initial interaction.

The sole reason why Thanatos wanted to put Marco's words to the test was simple. FEAR

Fear was the primordial feeling possessed by all. It was as the ancients said.

"Before the fleeting feelings of happiness, contentment and trust. One emotion existed in the past, FEAR. Nothing could have moved without that simple feeling."

Thanatos thoughts flew to how humans invented simple weapons in their being phases to defend and hunt.

Now it evolved till the extent that a weapon can rob a life easily, the more powerful ones can even causes wide spread death.

This thought triggered memories of how pantheons prepared for their 'calamities'. His own pantheon created weapons of mass destruction and sealing weapons to deal with Typhon.

The Norse created an unbreakable rope for Fenrir, and ships were designed to hunt other beasts.

"Ok, follow me, we will talk to Anubis. By the way if you prove that you truly are not a threat I will make sure that both Anubis and I train you."

As Thanatos finished, Marco was feeling conflicted, he only knew that Egyptian hell was hunting him. Was he scared, no definitely not but walking alone into enemy territory was sheer madness.

As Marco was deliberating Thanatos spoke, "You don't need to worry about enemies, as far as I am aware Anubis likes to stick out of all power struggles."

He turned and began walking gesturing for Marco to follow which he promptly did. "He is a neutral god that only seeks to perform his work, a simple man that cares nothing for the drama of his pantheon. So there's no need to worry and lets go."

Thanatos gestured with his hands as his energy condensed in front of him. "Now let's pay a visit to the Duat." He spoke as he stepped into the portal.
