The sound of the R&B track floating through the air didn't help either — the slow rhythm matched the steady thrum of my pulse. Every beat seemed to whisper her name, pulling me toward her.
She glanced up just then, catching me mid-step, a faint but knowing smile curving her lips. "You're home early," she said.
"I couldn't stay away," I replied. I reached for her, sliding my hand around her waist, feeling her warmth through the robe. My control slipped for half a second as I pulled her in and kissed her. Soft at first, tasting her, testing the air between us. Then deeper, hungrier, until she melted just slightly against me.
When I pulled back, her lips were parted, her eyes hazy, and I had to steady my breathing. "You look…" I said, "stunning."
Her smile widened. "Thank your mother."
I blinked. "My mother?"
She nodded, biting back a grin.
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Yeah, I can see how she'd come up with something like this. She's always been an enabler."
