As we gathered the kids Rah suddenly asked "what's the hurry? where are we going?" as I ushered her into the sky with my nose. Lucas and the other two baby dragons were already in the sky hovering waiting for our arrival. "I'll tell you on the way but first we have to go find Mr. Garcia" I said, as I kept nudging her with my nose. Rah grounded at this before she hopped into the sky, joining the others, and I followed suit soon after.
Once I joined them, Lucas lead us to the many different islands with the different biomes as we asked each dragon that we found, where Mr. Garcia would be. We found him and his family on the rainforest biome or island. He seemed to have been discussing something with his wife when I suddenly dropped from the sky, landing a couple ways away from him.
"Mr. Garcia I have something to report, it's urgent" I said, as I galloped over to him. Lucas and the small dragons followed closely behind. mr. Garcia then turned his head and surprise at my sudden arrival before asking "what is it? What do you wish to report?". As I arrived in front of Mr. Garcia, I quickly stopped before sitting down and saying "sir, there seems to be an unidentified object in the sky that blinks like a plane, but doesn't move" in an urgent but cautious tone.
Mr. Garcia seemed taken aback as he didn't seem to expect that sentient life would be on this planet. he then quickly looked into the sky before asking "like a plane? So does that mean it's only visible at night, among the stars?" in a questioning tone. I nodded my head as Mr. Garcia, lowered his gazed to look at me. He started scrutinizing my face, presumably trying to see if I was lying before he nodded his head and turned back to his wife.
They seem to have an unspoken communication as the wife nodded before taking off into the sky and departing for another island. Their child, beckoned by his mother, followed her as she slowed down her flight making sure the child could safely follow behind. Mr. Garcia then turn to me before saying "we will be gathering on the middle Island, you guys should go there too" before he to spread his wings and took off into the sky, heading towards the middle island.
I turned to Lucas and the children as they looked at each other with worried gazes. "Everything's gonna be all right" I said, in a comforting tone trying to reassure them. Lucas nodded at this before saying "humans might not even be the inhabitants of this place, it could be a peace loving race like elves or something" in a joking manner.
I chuckled at this, but the kids just stared at him, as if his statement made them question their whole reality. Lucas quickly shut his mouth once he realized their gazes didn't seem quite right, before he jumped into the sky and I followed suit along with the children.
We steadily made our way to the middle Island before we heard a resounding call that seem to reach almost all the islands. It was Mr. Garcia, he was calling for a gathering, his voice booming throughout the islands. It didn't take long for other dragons to rise from their respective places, taking to the skies and flocking towards the middle island.
It was a sight to behold as black and white streaks came from all different directions, some caring children or others not. When I saw the fast approaching crowd of dragons that were swiftly overtaking us. I then turned around, grabbed a hold of Rah and Jay before signaling for Lucas to do the same with Nikko. Lucas nodded at this before he swiftly grabbed Nikko and we started picking up speed towards the middle Island.
It didn't take long before we got there, and the meeting itself was in a clearing with pink trees all around. There was a rock in the middle perfect for a representative to sit upon. -that's quite convenient- I thought, as I noticed Mr. Garcia sitting upon the very rock with his family.
The announcement started when all the dragons were settled, and everyone quieted down. I was quite close to the front along with Lucas and the children. Me and Lucas for the children's safety sandwich them between us making sure we wouldn't lose a single one. "I've come upon some grave news" started Mr. Garcia in his signature stern voice.
He paused before he continued "we are not entirely sure, but there appears to be satellites in the sky, signifying that there may be intelligent life nearby" and with that multiple voices bursted forth, Most of them were of concern while others were of excitement and expectation.
Before the voices could get too overwhelming, Mr. Garcia quickly raised his voice saying "QUIET, I know you all must be concerned or excited about this new discovery, but let's think of our safety first. I know you all want to live on your respective islands that you have taken a fancy to, but you should at least have another family or group with you for safety measures if one goes missing".
There were slight murmurs at this before they were silenced once more. The meeting continued on for quite some time with the crowd pitching in with ideas from time to time. During the end of the meeting, Mr. Garcia finally said "now that, that is taken care of, is there anyone else that has any information regarding this or regarding another topic that wants to be shared?".
I pondered for a second before I jumped up, shouting "ME I HAVE AN IMPORTANT ONE TO SHARE" with clear excitement in my voice. Mr. Garcia seemed once again surprised as I could see in his face that he was questioning why I was the only one that ever seemed to find him for things like this.
"Yes, what is it" said Mr. Garcia and in response I quickly shouted "night fury's have echo location". Gasps came from the crowd as everyone began to stare at me. " is that true" asked Mr. Garcia with shock yet again on his face before a small smile appeared. I ferociously nodded my head at this before saying "you all should try it out too, though from my experimentation last night light fury's cannot do this".
I could hear some grunts of disappointment from the crowd as well as excitement from the different night fury's that quickly wanted to try out their newfound ability. Mrs. Garcia seemed no different as she quickly whipped herself around, trying to use echolocation while facing a small stream.
After a while, she gasped in excitement, and when I looked around, I had noticed many night fury's also trying to use echolocation. I chuckled at this as everyone seemed engrossed in their practice before I looked at the children, noticing Jay's face. He was frowning, clearly displeased with not being notified of this ability prior to the announcement. I sheepishly looked away, avoiding Jay's contemptuous gaze.
"How could you" said Jay before he continued with distain and a bit of bitterness present in his voice "I thought we were family". I was speechless "What do you mean we are family" I said frantically. Jay's Brown deep end as he slowly shook his head from side to side and narrowing his eyes. I sighed at this before I looked at Lucas and he seems to be holding back laughter, pretending he saw nothing as he quickly avoided my gaze.
-I found my target- I thought, as I narrowed my eyes at Lucas. Lucas seemed to sense the danger as he quickly whipped his head back to me before jumping into the sky, as if running away from a great disaster. I quickly jumped into the sky, trying to chase after him with the youngsters, trying to follow behind, but Before we could leave we were halted by the sound of a bang and then the crashing of a tree.
Everything seemed to freeze as we slowly turned our heads to where the sound came from. From where the sound originated, there was smoke rising to the air and the trees bark roasted and crashed onto the ground and the culprit, a light fury standing in astonishment at their achievement.
Everyone stared before Mr. Garcia came rushing over and saying "is anyone hurt? what happened?" With urgency. The light fury who was still stunned in astonishment, quickly snapped out of it at Mr. Garcia's questioning. They started stammering before frantically saying "I-um-I-I'm not too sure what happened, but I was just so frustrated that I couldn't use echolocation and didn't believe that I couldn't be able to use it, so I went to try but ultimately failed every time and in my frustration I blew that tree up somehow".
Mr. Garcia then started to inspect the damage to the tree, then looked at the light fury once more before saying "can you do it again?". The light fury, stunned at this quickly nodded their head, then shook their head before saying "I'm not too sure, but I can try". Me and my group had landed by now as we started getting closer to the light fury, and Mr. Garcia along with all the other dragons.
Mr. Garcia then turned to us and said "stay back, this is dangerous" with a tone laced with authority. Everyone unconsciously followed his command, stepping back and creating room for the light fury. As I stared at the light fury I could clearly tell they were nervous, their legs were shaking as they opened their mouth, pointing it out at another tree. On the first two tries nothing happens but on the third try, everyone saw a light purple beginning to condense in their mouth before it shot outward hitting a tree as the bark exploded and the tree swiftly fell to the ground.
Everyone was speechless and excited at this newfound power they were witnessing. Mr. Garcia noticing this quickly said "let's first settle down before we explore this power, we need a safe place first before we delve into our powerful abilities" there were some disappointed murmurs while others agreed as with power comes great responsibility.
Everyone seemed to want to go and settle down as quickly as possible so they could advance and designate a place to be able to freely practice their abilities. I too was excited as me and Lucas along with the three children swiftly took back to the air trying to find a designated area you could call home. We flew around the islands, under the islands, and above the islands finding many suitable spots that could be designated as our home.
The one I liked the most was a cave on the grassland island that was in the cliff or edge of the Island facing the ocean. It had a half circular shaped entrance and was quite deep. It also had sufficient room to accompany all of us, which was the most important thing, we could excavate and shape it to our liking later. Once I landed in the cave, I turned back to the others and said "this is it, this is our home that I have chosen" with great enthusiasm.
Jay stared into the dark, damp, cave before turning to me with a questioning look on his face. "Umm I don't wanna sleep in puddles" he said resolutely, Rah and Nikko quickly nodded beside him before Rah said "yeah I don't like sleeping while I think I'm swimming" her face showing a pout. I frowned at this before looking at Lucas trying to signal him for help only to notice he too, was staring at the small puddles of water that were littered throughout the cave.
I narrowed my eyes at Lucas before rolling my eyes and saying "this cave is the best. It's the most spacious, meaning it can fit all of us and" I walked over to the entrance, passing by Lucas and the children before continuing " look at this beautiful view we got" I paused before turning around to face them and continued "she's just a bit of a fixer-upper no big deal, all the caves we have been to so far have had some unpleasurable aspects to them".
The children seemed unconvinced, and in my haste, I looked at Lucas trying to send him yet another signal for him to help me out. Lucas seemed to have received it this time as he jolted up and then walked over to me and sat down next to me saying "the faster we soak up all this water, the faster we can sleep" with dedication almost teetering on reverence in his voice.
I raised an eyebrow at his performance, then looked at the children who were looking at Lucas with discussed and disappointment. There was an awkward silence with only the sound of the wind blowing from outside present, the first one to break that silence was me as I broke it with a "Pfft". I could no longer hold back, a snicker escape my mouth. I was in my own imagination before I quickly noticed all eyes were on me and I sat straight up, looking as if nothing ever happened with a confused expression present on my face.
When I looked at the three dragons in front of me, all I could see was disappointment present on their faces, Lucas particularly had a look of betrayal on his face. I was speechless after a response before I quickly shook my head and said "ok, let's get down to business" and with that we all began to work together to clear out our new home.
As we settled on the flouting islands Mr. Garcia gave everyone jobs. The light fury's would work in the day and the night fury's would work at night. Everyone agreed on this thanks to the light fury's shining scale color at night. If the light fury's guarded at night there was a high possibility of being discovered by whatever sentient creatures lived here.
Over time we became a tight nit community we're everyone knew each other on a first name basis and no one was left out. We also were able to clear out the cave and make it somewhat presentable as we used our claws to dig shallow pits, designating them into different things. One shallow pit was the sleeping area. One was the dining area and another one was for storage. We also had one that was deeper than the others that was filled with water that we collected.
The cave was starting to really feel like home, we had all been collecting different things that we would like to decorate our new home with. Some were seashells from the island we came from, we were only able to collect these when we were allowed to tag along on expeditions to the island we came from which everyone unanimously decided to call point A or island A.
The expeditions were mostly uneventful with dragon staying in the skies, rarely venturing to the ground. When they got back, they would report to Mr. Garcia as he was now known as chief. It was kind of cringe because most got it from different TV shows, anime, and even video games as they now decided that they were a village and needed a chief.
Lucas didn't really bring anything back to the cave though what he did bring was Clay and leaves along with other materials which he would mash to make a sort of pigment with them. He would then start drawing on the cave walls with the limited colors that he found out in the forest and different biomes. The artwork itself was quite beautiful, even with the limited colors, some depicted landscapes while others were kind of like portraits of himself and us flying through the sky or just sitting there. It gave the cave a more Homie vibe and nobody disagreed with the paintings being on the wall, in fact, we quite enjoyed them.
