The X-Men's jet soared through the night sky, the city lights of New York glimmering beneath them like distant stars. But no one inside the jet was admiring the view.
Liberty Island loomed ahead, shrouded in darkness, its towering statue a silent sentinel over the harbor. But tonight, it wasn't just a symbol of freedom—it was the battleground for mutantkind's future.
Wanda Maximoff sat near the front, arms crossed, her red eyes glinting in the dim light. This wasn't just another mission. This was where everything would be decided.
Earlier that day, the X-Men had returned to Xavier's mansion, battered but victorious after rescuing Rogue from Magneto's grasp. But the victory was hollow.
Jean sat in the war room, staring at her hands, the faint echo of energy still buzzing beneath her skin. She had felt something during that battle—something ancient, something powerful.
Wanda had noticed. She always noticed.
"You good, Jean?" Storm's voice pulled her from her thoughts.
Jean forced a smile. "Yeah. Just… tired."
But Wanda saw through the lie. She's changing, Wanda thought, and soon, she'll realize it too.
Xavier's voice filled the war room, his expression grim.
"Magneto isn't done."
The team leaned in, listening as Xavier explained the latest intel. Magneto had moved his operation to Liberty Island, planning to mutate world leaders during an international summit.
"If he succeeds," Xavier said, "it will plunge the world into chaos."
Wanda smirked. "Then we make sure he doesn't succeed."
Xavier hesitated. "We need to proceed cautiously."
But Jean spoke up, her voice firm. "No. Wanda's right. We need to hit them hard."
Storm nodded. "We can't afford to hold back."
Natasha leaned back, grinning. "Looks like we've got ourselves a Scarlet Queen in charge now."
Talia chuckled. "Long live the chaos."
Wanda rolled her eyes, but a small smile tugged at her lips. They trust me. Good.
The team gathered in the armory, suiting up for the mission.
Talia twirled her stun batons, glancing at Storm. "You ready for round two, weather witch?"
Storm smirked. "Always."
Natasha adjusted her symbiote suit, exchanging a glance with Wanda. "You sure you're not just collecting us all for your harem?"
Wanda groaned. "Not this again."
Gwen grinned. "Oh, come on. You know you love it."
Jean, standing nearby, flushed slightly but didn't deny the tension simmering beneath the surface.
Wanda sighed. "Focus, people. We've got a megalomaniac to stop."
The jet descended silently onto Liberty Island, the team disembarking with precision. The Statue of Liberty loomed above them, casting long shadows over the island's perimeter.
"The Brotherhood's already here," Cyclops whispered, scanning the area with his visor.
Wanda took the lead. "Natasha, Gwen, Talia—you're with me. Cyclops, Storm, Jean—flank the left. Wolverine, cover the rear."
"Finally," Wolverine grunted, cracking his knuckles. "Let's get this over with."
As they moved in, Wanda felt the familiar thrill of battle coursing through her veins.
They didn't get far before the ambush hit.
Sabretooth lunged from the shadows, claws bared, but Natasha was faster, her symbiote suit wrapping around her fists as she met him head-on.
Gwen flipped over Toad, webs snapping as she pinned him to the ground.
Talia and Storm worked in perfect sync, stun batons and lightning creating a deadly combination that left enemies crumpling in their wake.
But it wasn't enough.
Magneto's voice echoed across the battlefield. "Did you really think it would be that easy?"
The ground rumbled as the mutation machine powered up, its energy pulsing like a heartbeat.
Jean froze, feeling that strange pull again, the power inside her begging to be released.
Wanda grabbed her wrist. "Stay with me, Jean. We've got this."
Jean nodded, but her eyes were already starting to glow.
As they approached the machine, the Brotherhood closed in.
Magneto hovered above them, arms outstretched, the air thick with tension.
"This ends now I still have to make it back in time for afternoon tea with Storm and Jean." Wanda said, stepping forward.
Magneto was confused, but he still smirked saying. "Yes. It does."
