Chapter 126: Unexpected Support
Eli had actually met Jamitov before—right when the operation to sweep out the remnants of Zeon had just begun.
However, to Eli's surprise, Jamitov was nothing like the ambitious figure he had imagined, the man who sought to control the entire Earth Sphere. Instead, he seemed unexpectedly mild-mannered.
Yes, mild-mannered.
This general, who had begun leading a segment of the Federation Army to liberate Africa as early as December of UC 0079, had actually recognized the threat of Zeon remnants to the Federation even earlier than General Revil. Before specialized clean-up units like the Titans had even been established, he had already been directing his forces to purge the remaining Zeon factions.
When Eli first met Jamitov, the man had even taken the initiative to extend his hand, clearly intent on establishing a good rapport.
In fact, among all the theaters of war Eli had operated in over the past ten months, it was the forces in Africa that had responded most proactively to his authority to requisition troops.
At times, even before orders bearing Revil's signature had officially come through, the Federation Army in Africa would already be cooperating with Eli's operations.
As a result, Eli frequently found himself deployed to Africa, particularly around Kilimanjaro, in search of enemy movements.
He hadn't forgotten that in the future, it was through a Zeon remnant base hidden within an abandoned mine here that Gato would return to space.
Eli still wasn't sure if his earlier strike had truly finished off Gato. To be safe, he wanted to sever any possible route for his escape to space.
Yet, despite repeated searches of the abandoned mining facility, no remnants were found there. Instead, their activity seemed more concentrated in the northern deserts.
Now, Eli was once again at a military base on the outskirts of Dakar, preparing to meet with Jamitov.
"Welcome, Major Eli. The person you captured this time has drawn considerable interest from the European Forces. The representatives coming to take custody are already en route."
"Is that so? Is the person really that important?"
"No, it's simply that she used despicable means to kill the pilot of the Gundam EX. That young pilot had fought for a long time in Europe, saving many lives. So, the people over there want to avenge him."
Brigadier General Jamitov said this to Eli.
"A tragic affair—a child forced onto the battlefield because of the Federation, only to give their life."
Jamitov sighed, as if mourning the fallen pilot.
Eli, while also observing a moment of silence, couldn't help but feel that this situation was becoming troublesome.
Jamitov was unquestionably a staunch supporter of Revil's faction.
However, he had his own ideas as well. Lately, he had been testing Eli's stance, repeatedly emphasizing the threat Zeon posed to the Federation and linking it to the broader condition of space-dwelling citizens.
It seemed that Jamitov wanted to convince General Revil to take a stronger stance against the spacenoids.
But since Revil had yet to yield on the matter, Jamitov had been sounding out other members of Revil's faction.
Eli, for his part, had responded with a noncommittal "ah, right, right" attitude until the real topic finally surfaced.
"In two months, on New Year's Day, Dozle will be escorted to Australia for a public trial. Many key officials will be in attendance, including General Revil and the Federation Prime Minister. Therefore, General Revil has issued a direct order—Titans is to proceed to Australia immediately for a sweep operation."
At last, the main issue had been laid out.
Eli immediately straightened up and saluted Jamitov.
"Understood!"
With a nod from Jamitov, Eli turned and left.
Jamitov returned to his seat, his gaze contemplative.
The members of Revil's faction all sought to resolve the conflicts between Earth-dwellers and spacenoids, and Jamitov was no exception.
However, whereas Revil believed in gradually improving Federation-Spacenoid relations through long-term reforms, convinced that peaceful coexistence was possible, Jamitov's vision was far more radical.
He advocated for the sanctification of Earth, arguing that the planet should be governed exclusively by an elite ruling class, ensuring efficient societal operation as a means to improve Earth-Spacenoid relations.
From their recent conversation, Jamitov had already gained a rough understanding of Eli's perspective.
"So, he's someone who believes in equality even more than Revil or Daikun... A person like that either becomes the vanguard of reform—or even revolution—or fades into obscurity."
Jamitov muttered to himself.
Unfortunately, it seemed that very few within Revil's faction shared his vision.
But compared to the corrupt Federation Assembly, Jamitov still preferred to align with Revil's faction—for now. First, the Federation's corruption and arrogance had to be purged.
Then, when the time came, whether it would be coup or reform—that remained to be seen.
Elsewhere, completely unaware that his act of saving Revil had cost the Titans one of their future leaders, Eli had already begun preparations for the journey to Australia.
The White Chaser would set out westward from Africa, passing through Jaburo in South America, then crossing the Pacific before making landfall in Sydney Bay.
After announcing this mission to the entire ship, Eli walked through the corridors, his expression heavy.
This wasn't just Sydney—it was also where his hometown, Iffish Island, was located.
If he recalled correctly, debris from the fallen colony was still being cleared there.
By retired Federation soldiers.
This was part of a Federation plan. With the wartime expansion of the Federation military, a large-scale demobilization was now necessary, and the question of how to reintegrate these retired troops had to be addressed.
Ultimately, the Federation government opted to involve private enterprises, outsourcing the cleanup and reconstruction efforts while assigning former soldiers to these projects.
Given that the government was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, this was the best option available.
However, it was noticeable that Anaheim Electronics had secured the largest number of contracts for projects on Earth.
In exchange, the Federation government granted Anaheim a series of preferential policies and reconstruction orders.
Meanwhile, Yashima Heavy Industries focused primarily on space-based operations, taking on only the maintenance and reconstruction of two Sides.
