Chapter 9 - A state of no return

I was on my way home from Wally's place. As I walked through the street of the quiet neighborhood, all I could think of right now was Wally- The boy with emerald green eyes that makes me feel things I thought I wouldn't be able to. This boy was bad news, I really should up my game more in not letting my guard down with him, before this progresses to a state of no return.

He had offered to take me home which i declined. Today was really productive though, and Wally is so smart- explains the plenty academic awards in his room. We were almost done with our presentation, and we'd just finish up on Saturday.

He made me laugh a lot today while we were working on our presentation, something I've not really done genuinely in a while now, and though he was kinda annoying, I realized he was really fun to be with. He makes you feel so comfortable like you guys have known each other all your lives- How can someone be so accommodating? He's just like Britney too, I was like that too when I was younger, but now... I don't know if it's because of my past experiences, but I don't feel- I don't think, I can ever be like that again.

I soon got home, to meet an angry Jade.

"I told you I was gonna kill you if you don't return home on time, but it seems my threats grew wings and flew past your memory lane, this is already 16minutes into my date's time!" She chastised me.

I just huffed and went to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. I had spent so much time at Wally's, I didn't even realized it.

"Who's even this boy you're so worked up about?" I asked nonchalantly, after taking a couple of sips from the bottle of water.

"He's this hottie in my year- Senior year, that asked me out," she answered.

Oh Jade- I sighed in my mind. Already?- Well, I'm not surprised though, she's always belonged with the popular kids.

"So, are you gonna go now or continue chastising me?" I questioned.

"Was gonna do both, but I'm already late. Mom, how do I look?" She turned to our mom, who just rolled into the kitchen to join us.

"Gorgeous dear," she replied.

"Okay, I'm off. Don't wait up for me, I won't be back till elevenish."

Yeah...

I soon went upstairs to my room.

The next day after school, I spent the whole afternoon and evening with Brit. We went to the mall, then to the park, also saw a movie together.

"Guess what?" She started, turning off the song we were just singing along to. We were in her dad's car, she was driving.

"I don't like guesses." I said simply.

"Tsk... You just know how to take out the fun in everything, don't you?" She replied jokingly.

"Yeah," responded with a nod, not taking it to heart.

"Well, I finally talked with Dick, like a real conversation and we even exchanged numbers." She announced.

"Really? Good for you. When?" I inquired.

"Today, at gym class." She replied, and I just nodded.

"That's my house over there," she pointed out, and I did see it. She was just like three neighborhoods away from me. I finally agreed to take her to my house, we were driving there right now.

"Did you see it?" She asked.

"Yes."

"Great, come visit me okay?" She requested, and I just smiled.

In just a matter of time, we got to my place.

I got out of the car, "I'll take you in next time you come visiting."

"What? No, why?" She whined.

"It's already late, Brit. Just go home okay,"

She sighed then pouted, "Fine."

I waited until she drove out of sight, before I walked into my house.

Inside, I saw Jade and her friend Susan watching the TV nonchalantly, as they also chatted loudly about other stuffs that didn't relate to whatever they were watching while also bring on their phones.

I dashed passed them but Jade just had to say hello of all days. "Hey Athena."

"Hey, Jade... and Susan," I replied.

"Oh hey princess, you're looking as beautiful as ever," Susan responded.

"Uh thanks," I said, and walked away from them immediately before this turns into some unwanted conversation.

It was Saturday.

I just got to Wally's. I pushed the doorbell, and a woman opened it. She was dressed like a housekeeper.

She greeted me with a smile.

"I'm here for Wally," I stated after greeting her with a smile too.

"Right this way," she responded and led me to a part of the house that looked like a sitting room. There, I saw Wally and Dick stressing over a video game.

"Don't you guys have something better to do?" I announced my presence and they both turned away from the game towards my direction.

"Athena, wow, what are you doing here?" Dick questioned.

"Wally and I have a presentation to finish." I responded, my gaze moving to Wally.

"Hmm Athena, I see you've put in a lot of work to look good for me," Wally commented, bitting down on his lower lip. I got flustered by his words immediately. Maybe he is right, I am wearing things I don't usually wear- I was on a short flowery gown, I had lipgloss on, and to sum it up I even let my hair down. Alina even teased me that I was going on a date, and I don't think the backpack I was carrying was able to convince them enough that I wasn't.

I scoffed, "In your dreams."

"Now- Let's get down to the presentation so that I can stop hanging out with you." I added.

They both chuckled.

"It's just been twice, and it's not really that much of a hangout. And c'mon Athena, isn't it too early to start working on school stuffs? You just got, we have the whole day-"

"Look Walls! I'm just here for the presentation, and the earlier we finished the better for the both of us. So get your lazy ass off that couch and let's go." I cut in.

"Whatever." He replied.

"I'll be back real quick Dick," he said to Dick.

"Take your time," Dick replied.

Then Wally and I went up to his room.

Like I had mentioned, we were almost done with the presentation from the last time, so we didn't even take up to an hour to conclude it. Now we were discussing how to present it. I was saying we should present it together but Wally was insisting only I do it, not like I can't, but Wally's just a lazy ass.

"Look, I'm practically the leader here, so you'd do whatever I say." I told.

He chuckled, "The leader? Well, more reason why you should just present it yourself."

Then I punched him in the arm playfully. We were sitting by his windows, close to each other, really close to each other- I could grasp the beauty of his emerald green eyes, so much as the sunlight that pierced into his room through his windows fell on him.

"Ouch!" He yelped.

"Just do what I say!" I said to him.

He smiled, "You're not the boss of me," So, I punched him again. "Ouch! Stop doing that."

Then my laughter slipped through my lips, and I just just cracked up.

His lips pulled up in a small smile, and he chuckled too. "Oh she's happy now."

He continued to stare dreamily at me as I laughed.

Laugh?- Something this boy seems to easily make me do.

I soon stopped laughing, my hand brought a strand of my hair to the back of my ear.

"What?" I questioned awkwardly, as he was still staring at me with that infectious smile, as if holding each other's gazes at such proximity wasn't awkward for me enough.

"You have a beautiful laughter." He told, and there goes my stupid heart again. The organ couldn't help but skip a beat at his trivial words.
