Chapter 143 - Chapter 143: Pyrophobia – Fear of Insufficient Firepower

As humanity's most powerful weapon to date—especially after being personally upgraded by Vil-V—multiple N1 bombs detonating at once could only be described as world-ending.

These weapons weren't ideal for single targets and were outrageously expensive, but when it came to sheer firepower against a sea of enemies, they proved one timeless truth: "There are no useless weapons, only foolish commanders."

The intense light was visible even from Latinburg. In the ruins of the central plaza, atop the wreckage of a beheaded tank, the Herrscher of Wind stopped humming her cryptic tune and slowly raised her head.

Her emerald-glowing pupils flickered with confusion. The enemy had gathered their forces—so why would they use such precious doomsday weapons here? It defied logic. When she formulated her plans, she had already accounted for false targets. The Fire Moth first bombardment had been aimed at a Judgment-class Honkai beast.

In terms of Honkai energy signatures, both she and the beast were indistinguishable on satellite maps. But a well-defended Judgment-class was certainly not going to be taken out by a few explosive rounds.

The Herrscher eyes flickered. She couldn't quite understand The Fire Moth reasoning. How had they even figured out the type of their target? But soon, she came up with an explanation.

"So they're after me. But how did they know I'm here?"

She had been hiding in the shadows. Now, she had a strange feeling—as though someone had hidden even deeper than she had. Honkai beasts weren't surveillance drones; she had even lost track of the humans' movements.

"They're coming for you," a cold male voice echoed again. "Should I return now?"

"No need. I can handle these rats alone. Besides, Varuna wasn't taken down by him."

"What if he wasn't here at all? Varuna didn't even fulfill its purpose. Its death was a waste."

The Herrscher of Wind paused. Eliminating a fusion warrior squad had little value. But Judgment-class Honkai beasts weren't born easily.

'Could it be that he really wasn't here, and I've been plotting with rat all along?' Even the Herrscher was a little shaken, waiting for the final news from the surviving family members.

The rats were retreating—none heading for Latinburg. She quickly did a mental calculation.

There was no coordination. The target was not a threat alone. Most likely, he was hiding behind the rats, waiting to strike the moment she was engaged.

Strength against strength, minus fatigue—a win rate under 22.3%. It was time for one last probe.

"Begin the operation. Let frost freeze this land. Let destruction cleanse civilization. Sweep through Southern Britannia, then cross the sea to France."

"When humanity regroups, abandon the Honkai beasts and go straight to Northern Europe."

"That place is saturated with Honkai energy. The sins of humanity there gave birth to an… interesting individual."

The tide of destruction was about to be unleashed. But the cold male voice showed no emotion. He didn't even ask about this "interesting individual."

Instead, it simply asked, "And you?"

The Herrscher stepped lightly into the air, then sat atop the cannon barrel. Her teal dress fluttered in the wind, revealing snow-white over-knee socks and a youthful face—strikingly aligned with human aesthetics.

She opened her hand, grasping what looked like a staff.

Light bent around her. To outsiders, she was invisible. Even the swaying grass became more pronounced around her.

"I'll wait for him… just a little longer."

In the distance, a man with icy blue hair stepped out of a tilted apartment building. The southern wind stirred his wine-red suit.

A folded-collar shirt, tie, six-button vest, and pressed suit jacket—he looked like a British gentleman straight out of a textbook. Only his pale blue eyes seemed… uncanny.

Before him stretched a flat, barren plain. All buildings, trees, and obstructions had been flattened. Ten miles ahead lay The Fire Moth defensive line.

From east to west, it spanned all of Britannia: landmines, trenches, artillery. Behind them—heavy guns. Above—armed helicopters. And tens of thousands of soldiers stood ready with every kind of weapon.

With this level of defense, not even tens of thousands of death soldiers and Honkai beasts could break through. It was enough to kill a Herrscher outright. After all, the last three Herrschers had never seen a line like this.

But the Herrscher of Wind's greatest contribution was finding a new path—one that fused Honkai beasts and Herrschers.

"Then let's see how effective this path truly is."

Frost froze the air. The Herrscher vanished. Behind her, the earth of the town surged like stormy waves. Buildings collapsed one by one.

Light-blue crystalline Honkai beasts burst from underground, beetle-like, howling at the sky.

ROAR—

The sky darkened further. Snowflakes began to fall. The temperature dropped by dozens of degrees. Even gasoline froze. Sensors became overloaded with static like falling snow.

"High-energy Honkai source detected. Coordinate 1332. Distance: 600. Confirmed Judgment-class."

"Heavy interference. Switching to optical feed."

It was really happening. Carius and the Nordic branch saw it at the same time. The Honkai had stepped out of the fog of war and appeared before humanity's eyes.

The enormous "gem" at its center glowed brightly—and behind it marched countless Honkai beasts and death soldiers.

There was no real formation. Just a mob charging forward. At the front—Assault-class beasts, swarming like wasps. Behind—War Chariot types, crushing already-tilted buildings beneath their weight.

The tide made hearts sink. In all Fire Moth records, there had never been a charge this massive.

As the thunderous footfalls closed in, humanity's side remained eerily silent. The soldiers snapped out of their shock, receiving precise commands via the high-efficiency data chain.

"Target with armored turrets. Load thermobaric rounds."

"VLS online. Honkai warheads primed."

"Aircraft squadrons entering firing formation. Firepower coverage protocol engaged."

Weapons roared to life. Black steel glinted under the sunlight. Even ordinary infantry raised rocket launchers.

They waited silently for the enemy to close in. Then—at the edge of the horizon—the leading Knight-class Honkai beast stepped on an anti-tank mine.

"Open fire!"

BOOM BOOM BOOM—

Missiles and artillery vomited fire. From ballistic missiles to shoulder-fired rockets, the sky was torn apart by crisscrossing trajectories, raining destruction upon the advancing horde, turning the horizon into a blazing sea of fire.

The earth trembled. Dust and fireballs erupted. The scorching air swept across faces—a symphony of devastation written in the name of civilization.

"Casualty count confirmed. Reloading for round three."

"Long-range artillery—move to firing positions!"

From UAV views, each round wiped out thousands. The Honkai army had no tactics—just brute force. Helicopters picked off targets with missiles.

The once-tense atmosphere relaxed. These monsters looked terrifying—but in truth, they were stupid.

Even War Chariot types couldn't withstand sustained missile strikes. This wasn't a city—humans could finally fight unrestrained.

There was no such thing as "insufficient firepower." If there was, it just meant—you need more firepower.

"Deploy the White Swan. Total wipeout. Focus fire on that new Judgment-class. While we have the chance, move reinforcements in—we've confirmed the main attack direction."

Forces had been evenly distributed along the line, but now that the Honkai were concentrating, so could the Moth. Tanks and aircraft were just as fast as the enemy.

This is suicide. Are the Honkai really this dumb?

Carius watched monsters fall in droves and couldn't shake his unease. He stared at the strategic bomber icons… at the ballistic missiles falling from the sky… until—

"Commander! New high-level Honkai energy signature confirmed!"

He didn't need the CIC to tell him. He had already seen it—the sky itself had gone still. Missiles traveling at ten times the speed of sound froze midair.

A terrifying new Honkai source appeared on the map.

Carius jolted upright, knocking over his coffee.

This was a Herrscher—but not the Herrscher of Wind!

"What the hell is that?!"

Flames and missiles all paused. The world went quiet, save for landmines detonating. Soldiers inside bunkers looked up—with the same expression:

Utter disbelief. Absolute despair.

Above them hovered a massive ice sphere, over three kilometers in diameter. It was crystalline, filled with—

Missiles, warheads, and several N1 bombs.

Before any of them could unleash their destructive power, they were **frozen midair—**like museum pieces inside a crystal display.

What was this thing?

The ice sphere shattered imagination itself. And as this frozen star began to fall from thousands of meters above, the soldiers below had one thought:

Run!

Survival instinct overrode everything. But it was useless. Shadows consumed them. Darkness fell like a tidal wave.

BOOM—RUMBLE—

Carius shut his eyes. Not because he couldn't bear to see the screen—but because he couldn't see anything anymore.

The dust cloud raised by the meteor had blotted everything out.

Only if one looked closely could they see dozens of tanks hurled into the sky. Human bodies flew like paper scraps.

From Fire Moth headquarters to the Raven base—only silence remained. The satellite feed had gone blind. But the Honkai signal…

Still advancing.

Carius felt a creeping sense of helplessness. But more than fear of the Herrscher, he felt confusion.

He recalled whispers within the Moth:

"Honkai cannot be fought. It's like a spring—the harder you push, the stronger it rebounds. Better to stop resisting. To accept it. To merge with it. Only then can humanity leave its infancy behind."

That thought flickered—and vanished. Carius knew: right now, mitigation was the priority.

"Two Herrschers… Dr. Ryan only got half right."

But he couldn't even blame the man. The Wind Herrscher truly wasn't here.

"Pull back the lines. Tell the Nordic branch to activate evacuation protocols. Identify which towns must be abandoned immediately. And—"

"Get me Dr. Ryan. He's in trouble."
