Armaros and Fanah ignored the looks that they were getting as they ate the food they bought from the guild, though they couldn't exactly fault the others for looking at them due to what they had done and shown. After all, they had returned from a goblin extermination mission after killing a Ogre, a species that were known to be strong and dangerous.
The fact that the ones who did it is a young adult and a crippled warrior was sure to get the attention and scrutiny of them all. Thankfully, the ear made it so that they realised that they were telling the truth and it also allowed them to get generous amounts of money, which he is going to put to good use.
It also had the added bonus of making them B rank adventurers, as it was unheard of for two C rank adventurers to be able to kill an Ogre, the very fact that they had managed to return back to the guild with the ear, which was still fresh, showed that they had the skills for it. Of course they had sent guild members to check the place out and they already had a story in mind for when they were questioned so it was easy for them.
"On the plus side, we can take more quests." Armaros said as he ate his food.
"B rank quests in this guild aren't exactly lucrative." Fanah said as she ate a chunk of her beef.
"This is a smaller branch and this isn't a major town after all." Armaros said with a shrug.
'This town, while large is not at the same level as Xerxia, so I guess I can understand that.' Armaros thought to himself as he ate his food.
"Do you plan on going to other towns for more money?" Fanah asked him curiously.
"Not at the moment, currently I just want to relax for a while. Especially after that battle." Armaros said as he finished his food.
Fanah nodded as she understood her master's words, the fight with the Ogre was treacherous, especially with her single arm. She still felt the tremors she felt when she was hit and sent flying through a wall, as the impact reverberated through her body when that happened. She had never experienced that before and honestly didn't want to, as it was rattling to feel the walls hit against her entire body and the rattling sensation and vibration she felt from hitting it with such force as it crumbled under her weight.
If her master had ordered her to come with him for a commission, it wasn't like she could go against him, but she would have been disgruntled by the order nonetheless, so his decision was something that she appreciated.
But another thing that has stayed in her mind was the matter regarding her master. When he had purchased her, she had thought that he was yet another arrogant young man who wanted to make a name for himself and more money with the help of a slave, and she had thought that he would just use her for his own gain and coast on her efforts.
But he has shown himself to be a capable warrior, and a better swordsman as well. Able to dispatch of enemies easily, which caused her to question why he had never become an adventurer before, as he definitely had the skills needed become a strong adventurer.
And he wasn't just a muscle head who swung his sword around, he was smart and pragmatic as well, and though his methods of killing were distasteful to her due to her values as a knight, she can't disagree with the fact that he has great strength, which was shown by how he had fought the Ogre, a monster that even she would've bad trouble defeating with both her arms.
She knew that it was underestimating them, and he capitalised on that arrogance to take it down. But even if that was the case, the sheer power that her master showed was something that you can't see just anywhere. The way he slashed all over the body of the Ogre and separated his limbs, followed by killing him swiftly, the movements and strength he possessed was much greater than she had in her prime.
He had mutilated the Ogre in moments and also killed him as well, with strength and speed she could only dream about as he defeated a monster that could only be killed by a decent percentage of people. And she is certain that if her master wished, he could massacre the entire guild branch and the town and it's people, without breaking a sweat.
And with the Divine weapon that he had obtained from the temple? He was basically unstoppable for most, with the weapon being of the highest order, only being able to be contended by other Divine weapons or magic of similar rank.
And so she is certain that with his skills and the weapon, he is easily at the stage of an A rank adventurer, and could certainly contend with a lot of people, granted he was able to fully master the use of the weapon in his grasp.
But another matter was his skills themselves. For she had no idea from where he had gotten such skill at the sword and his own ability to use mana and everything else. For a boy his age, the skills he displayed is not something that is normally seen, and the sheer power he had shown showed clear talent, far greater than most, and it became clear to her that her master wasn't as simple as she had thought him to be.
But as of this moment, she has no leads to understand who her master is and so she will just enjoy the brief respite from adventuring and take the time to heal from the battle and come to grips with the fact that her master is now the owner of a divine weapon and an absolute beast in battle, one who is able to kill an Ogre in few moments.
'That settles it. He is capable of killing me easily.' Fanah thought to herself as she finished her food as well.
She wondered how he will change after the encounter in the temple, for she knows that no mortal would stay the same after an experience like that.
The two then went back to their inn to rest, and she felt quite content as she laid on the bed with her master. He had allowed her to sleep on the bed with after after a while since she joined him, and since she can't hurt him he didn't mind it as she drifted off to sleep.
Armaros felt happy as he felt the bed, and while it wasn't the best, it was good enough for him to sleep in. He didn't much care that Fanah slept with him on the bed, knowing that she can't attack him and that even if she did try anything in his sleep, he would just retaliate in turn. He still remember the demonic scabbard inside of him and of the emblem that was engraved onto his skin right above his heart and the divine spear that entered his body after the events of the temple.
He had found that he is able to call on the divine spear whenever he wanted as he tested it while Fanah wasn't looking and he could feel the power in it. He didn't know if it was of the same rank as the ones used by the Dawnbringer clan, but he is sure that it is a very powerful weapon and extremely useful, one that he would have to use with care and discretion, otherwise he might be hunted down for the possession of such a weapon.
They also needed to get new equipment, as their current ones had gotten damaged by the battle with the Ogre, and he was sure that his own sword is in a bad shape due to all the damage it had withstood, and he wasn't exactly precise when he channeled his mana through it to kill the Ogre, but he also didn't want to part with the blade as well.
It was a normal sword of course, one that he had bought to be used in place of the weapon that he had gotten from his family, and should have been one of the many nameless weapons that he wielded.
And yet that same weapon had been used to slay the Ogre in the temple, it's not a feat that can be brushed off, certainly not for him, as even he knew the strength that they held. The demons that he had fought against in the town of Lucia were weaker than the Ogre was, that he was sure.
A weaker version of him with the divine power was able to kill them, and it took a lot more power and effort from him to kill the Ogre, and if it had been serious from the start and he didn't have Fanah's support, then he wasn't sure of his survival. And he had done so with the sword in his hand.
Not a divine weapon, nor a demonic one, nor one that was created by any special materials or blacksmiths. Just a simple sword forged from normal materials, and yet one that has helped him in killing a monstrous Ogre. It was a novel experience and thought and he couldn't help but feel a bit attached to it.
The blood of the Ogre was still on the sword and his armor, he didn't care much about them though, as he was too distracted by the temple and the exhaustion from the battle to care about the blood on him. He was already used to the sight and scent of blood, this life he leads as an adventurer was bloody and dirty, but nonetheless, if felt real and he felt like he had accomplished something and the sword felt a lot more special to him.
But he decided to think about that later, as he wanted to get some sleep after the fight against the Ogre and recover his energy and rest his mind as he slowly drifted away into sleep and found peace for the day.
A/N: How has my book been so far? I want to know what you all think about it.
