Chapter 88 - A Warrior’s Worth

Evan then turned and walked with Sensei to his dorm where he changed out of "his disguise" and put away the non-military-issued weapons. While he was doing this, Sensei was critiquing his technique and telling him where he needed improvement. Overall, however, the Sensei was impressed with Evan's performance that day. After making sure nobody was in the dorm, Evan called Dobby and asked him to box up the dead Basilisk outside the bunker, remove the portkey but keep it in reserve, and to deliver the snake to Ballsack.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister and General Black made their way back to the Commander's office. "Weird things happen around your Midshipman Fenix" the PM said to the General. "That they do, Sir."

Ten minutes later, Midshipman Fenix, his Sensei, and the chef arrived. Fenix and the Sensei were both carrying two 5-gallon buckets each, filled with powder: one with a reddish brown powder, the other a greyish powder. In addition, Fenix was carrying a roll of silver-colored wire. The Commander and Madam Bones watched from the doorway as they went into the bunker, sliced open the snake, removed it's entrails, filled it with a thorough mix of the reddish brown powder (iron oxide) and the grey powder (aluminum), laid in the silver wire, and then sewed it back up. The Midshipman asked Madam Bones to apply the delayed ignition spell on the silver wire only, and the anti-banishing spell on the entire snake. Then the Midshipman and Sensei left.

As Madam Bones and the Commander left the bunker, they noticed the three sections of the snake that had been lying in the dirt outside in front of the building, were gone. Getting the Commander's attention, which was pleasantly not hard to do, she walked over to where the snake was. She and the Commander could see no signs of how the snake had been moved. Over 20 feet of large snake – it must have weighed 10 stone (140 pounds), not to mention the weight of the steel pipe around its head. No drag marks, no wheel marks or foot prints. It was like it just disappeared! They had been with the Midshipman outside before he left with Sensei to change; they were there when he came back and went into the bunker; and they were there when he left the bunker. How did the snake disappear?

The went to see the Midshipman, finding him already asleep in his room with a box filled with the Queens robe, wig and beads, by his bed. Madam Bones quickly used a spell to see if there were any magical objects in the room, finding none. She shook her head as they exited the room.

"Weird magic-like things happen around your Midshipman Fenix" she said after they were in the hallway. "He is not registered in our books as having magic. He is not registered as knowing about magic, yet he does. He has no magical objects yet performs feats that do not seem possible without magic. His fighting skills are exceptional, yet non-magical. I want one of him!" she exclaimed. The Commander chuckled. "No can do, Madam Bones. He is one of our Marines – in training at that. When he got here, he was a pip-squeak of a boy. Today he shows confidence, yet is humble; strength of character; a great capacity to learn, and to help others; a great team player and collaborator; and he exudes leadership qualities. I can't give up on someone like that." The Commander replied as they exited the building.

January 1, 1996. ~12:00 noon. Gringotts Bank, Griphooks Office. Griphook, Ballsack, and Ragnock congregated in the office. Dobby the elf had delivered the trisected corpse of a 20-foot long Basilisk, and a memory in a vile. It had been a long time since Basilisk parts had been available on the market – this 20-foot snake would bring in an estimated 200,000 Galleons. All the vital and most expensive parts remained intact. The eyes and venom were highly prized potions ingredients; the meat and brain, delicacies; the skin was prized as much as dragon skin for it's protective qualities. Per agreement, one eye, one fang, one quarter of the venom, and one half of the skin would be placed in a vault under "James Granger", along with one quarter (50,000 Galleons) of the proceeds from the sale of the Basilisk. Ballsack was going to keep the Basilisk skeleton in his workshop, and one quarter of the proceeds from the sale of the Basilisk. One eighth of the proceeds (25,000 Galleons) would be given to Griphook for his help. The remainder would be split – half (75,000 Galleons) into the vault for Hermione Granger, and half converted into English Pounds (187,500) and transferred to the account of Nicolas Linnear.

Now, however, was the time to see the battle! As they entered the memory, they could see their Avatar, Harry Potter disguised as Evan Fenix, Royal Marine in training, as he dressed up in the Queen's clothing to lure the snake into a trap. Later they saw as he rolled out of the way of the flying snake, deftly slicing it in half using the sword Ballsack had made for him. They saw his friend, Sensei Linnear making the other slice, also with a sword made by Ballsack. Although the battle itself was short, the Goblins could all see that against a Class 5X dangerous and sentient animal, these two exemplified warriors at their best – they were fearless, confident, and wielded their weapons with conviction and strength - True warriors to be respected.
