Somewhere in Antarctic - 8:30AM
A research facility . Not a big one but rather a small one, a mobile research facility.
A man comes out of the cabin and stands next to a young woman who is holding a cup of coffee.
All of a sudden he screams.
" Fuckkkkkkkkk" he screamed for bottom of his lungs .
" Jesus , You scared the shit of me dude " a women next to him was startled spilling her drinks .
" what the fuck happened to you ? " she questioned him
" You know I was suppose to leave tomorrow, Right ? " " Huh , Yes. Why you don't wanna go home? "
" I'm dying to go back home, but the damned director reinstated me back for another 2 weeks in this cold hell " " why ?"
" the damn baldy says something is going to happen , he wants me to research "
" What's gonna happens? "
" He won't say anything how much I asked him. The only thing he said is he will be sending us the coordinate in an hours and we have to research the area "
" I thought you love researching "
" I love research but not this boring cold hell. All we do is drill a hole in the ground collect samples and that's it , this is not what I want . I want to discover something ancient and interesting . I want my Life to be exciting "
The young women laughs " You want to find something ancient ? Like frozen animals and mammals?"
" Anything but this damn frozen water . I'm hungry let's go inside " he moves inside the cabin, as he left the woman waits for a few seconds and she moves in too.
"Morning Jenny , morning Fred " a third person walks in and keeps his binoculars and ice axes.
There are only three people in the research facility. And he is the third person james.
" Are you ready for the home, Fred ? " James asks.
" I'm staying here for another 2 weeks "
James was surprised " why " he asks.
" The director won't let me leave. He want me to research a new unknown location "
" I'm pretty sure the new replacement can do the job too . Why you "
" God knows what's on his bald head " Fred was bit sad and sad as he spoke.
" Now now , don't be angry, we are with you right? Why are you sad ." James comforts him. " I think the director has a reason for this " Fred felt bit relief
" Ugh, I'm sick of this can foods " Jenny complains .
Even though they work for a company they can't have luxurious food. Why ? Not that the company doesn't care about their employees but the harsh environment they live in and they have limited access to the supplies .
" Be happy with what you have, more than a 700 million people are starving in the world and you still get to eat "
" Enough with the philosophy dilogue, pass the plate ."
After microwaving the food she serves the food on 3 different plates ." Take it " she passed the plate to him.
They sat down on the couch and having their breakfast and watching a movie.
9:17 AM
Alarm beeps " ting-ting, ting-ting"
Fred check the satalite phone " 67°39'01"S 97°18'47"E ."
As he was checking the phone rings , he answers the call.
" Yes, i received the coordinates." He straight up answers him and receives few instructions and the call ends .
" What is it ?" Jenny asks .
" There is an ubnormal thermal variation in this location , so we are checking place ."
" What do you mean ubnormal? This whole damn place is ubnormal" James said
" The director said, on this location the ice is melting 8 times faster than usual "
" 8 times ? That's not possible! There is no way thats happening " Jenny retorts
" There is a possibility " james answers" if it's a lava "
" ohh " Jenny scratches here head .
" Now things are getting intresting " Fred stands up and walks out quickly .
" What do you mean " James follows Fred behind .
" That's not possible, there is no lava here "
" If it's lava, the melting rate would be more then 8 times and also there is no earthquake readings for lava to flow." He packs his climbing gears " that's why it's interesting " he laughs .
" If there is no lava then how ? " Jenny looks at james
" How the hell would I know ? "
" Come on we are moving, it's bit far . About 11 miles to south-west " Ferd walks on and James follows him.
" Guys, wait for me " Jenny hurriedly packes up the gear and runs up to them .
The path was straight no obstacles or anything, 4 hours later they reach the coordinates .
" What the hell ? " Jenny searches for any sign of melting snow or ice " do we have to climb that shit ? " .
" Yeah , Fred are you sure we are on the right place ? " James asks Fred .
Fred looks around for few minutes but there is really no sign of anything ubnormal but a tiny frozen hill , a little over 600 ft.
They look around for a while and found nothing.
" Guys, we are going back."
" Now ? But we haven't found anything! " James says
" If we move Now we can reach the cabin before 19:00 PM"
" Ok, let's go , Jenny come on " he calls out for Jenny and they all walk back with no success.
Fred who was walking front " we are moving the the cabin by half the distance"
" Huh? half ? Why not full ? " Jenny was dumb founded.
" Jenny, I sometimes wonder how do you even became a researcher? " James started laughing.
" Do you remember why we came here jenny?" Fred looks back at Jenny .
" For research "
" And what research is that " this time james asks her .
" Ubnormal thermal variation "
" Do you sleep closer to the fire ? " " I'm not that dumb " she retorts .
" We are in the caution zone right now , we don't know what happens or when it melts, that's why. " james said as he knocks on her head .
" I understand that part , but why half ? "
" What if there is a strom Tommorow? You can't go back and forth all the way " Ferd spoke
" Ohhhh , i am dumb " laughed.
After about 4 half hours they reached cabin .
" We had no luck today " Fred on the sat phone .
" We are moving the cabin close by half the distance Tommorow "
The director agreed with him and he ended the call.
Fred walk back inside the cabin ." Goodnight guys "
" Goodnight" james and Jenny both say and sleeps.
Next day they move the cabin to the location. It took them 8 hours to move . It's wasn't that hard to move but rather to pack the things . They did not check up on the caution zone today.
After that day they check up on the location every 2 days . A week goes by but the couldn't find anything.
On the second week.
" Fred " Jenny calls out ." Was director saying the truth? It's been a week and we haven't found anything."
" The director didn't lie , we haven't found anything because there is nothing here " Fred gesture his both hands to the ground.
" What do you mean " james asks .
" Whatever is happening it's happening below the ice not above the ice . It's melting from inside, there is something hollow below us "
" Wait , what " Jenny exclaims.
" I used seismic waves and found out that there is a hollow down here "
" How deep is it ? " James asks .
" 2 days ago it was 550 ft but it's 460 ft today . The melting rate is increasing day by day. It's 16x currently "
James and Jenny both were shoked ." Did you inform the director about this ? We have to do something" James asks .
" I did inform him but he didn't take it to the heart "
" What do you mean by that ? " Jenny came closer
" He thinks it's because there is hot gas leak from the underwater volcano beneath the ice.
the intresting part is it's only about the 40 meter radius. So he thinks it's not that important . I think it's truly ubnormal "
" Why ?" " You know nature as a pattern right ? "
" Yes . It's spiral shape, it's weird "
" But the hollow benith is more weird " they both looked confused " Because it's consuming the ice like a dome ."
4 days later .
" 2 more days , we are leaving this cold hell " Jenny shouts and laughed like a evil Queen .Fred and James both ignore her and continued their works.
" How much is the depth ? And why are you wearing the harness ?" James asks to ferd while he collects the frozen ice samples.
" Today's depth is 19 ft "
" what do you mean 19 ft isn't that supposed to be more than 100 ft ?"
" Do you think there is fixed flame or something below there to follow the rules ? It's unpredictable dude . "
" So it's gonna open Tommorow? Today ?"
" Why do you think I have harness on ?" Fred laughs .
" Wait " James was too stunned to say anything. He took a few calm breath .
Fred holding his electronic device , looked at him and laughed
" You fuckin asshoke , do you want to kill us all ? " He cussed at him and slowly moved outside the zone .
" Run, run asshole " he teased him.
As he was out of the caution zone quickly equipped the harness and he called out for Jenny .
" What ?" Jenny asked
" Wear your harness"
" Why ?' " because the fucking ice can break anytime "
As he said those words . He heard a thunderous string noise . He quickly took jennys harness and tied her up .
Suddenly he jolted and looked at Fred . But fred was no where to be found .
