Chapter 105 - a Friend's Betrayal

The demons spread across the coast, clashing fiercely with the warriors. Some held their ground despite their wounds, while others fell, bidding farewell to the battlefield with weapons still in hand and the spark of victory glowing in their eyes. Both sides fought with intense passion.

In the middle of the battlefield, something strange was happening. Amid the chaos of the coast, the heroes weren't fighting as usual. This time, they had gathered in one spot, unmoving, staring at a pale-skinned demon surrounded by blue flames. Her power was evident—so much so that all they could do was stand there in shock.

"Is this your true power? That's amazing! Why didn't you tell me before?" Sebastian said, smiling with a hint of disbelief.

"You idiot, she's a demon… all this time you were one of the Versin demons!" Linda shouted.

"A demon? What are you talking about?! Runari, is that true?!"

"Enough talking. The truth is right in front of you. Accept it and leave this bitch! Haven't you realized yet?! It's so obvious, but you still want to mess everything up!" Kevin yelled.

At that moment, Sebastian was overwhelmed with shock. He couldn't understand anything. He couldn't even hear anymore. All that filled his mind was Runari's new form and his friends' words. Thoughts tangled, his tongue froze, his eyes widened—all in a desperate attempt to comprehend. He realized that the one thing he cherished most in this world... was actually something else.

Linda turned to glance at the battlefield and saw that the demons' numbers were overwhelming, but in front of her stood a Versin, who was a major threat. She didn't know what to do either. But one of the three, only one, was certain of his next step. For his desire had been born long ago on this very coast—the desire to kill Runari. Kevin was the only one who knew exactly what had to be done now.

"Linda, go. I'll handle her," Kevin said, gripping his dual blades and locking eyes with the blue demoness.

"But!" Linda muttered.

"Just go. This has been my goal for a while now," Kevin repeated.

Linda froze, then finally took off, leaving the three of them standing close together. The Versin smiled again, then raised her bow high. An arrow formed and she fired it at Kevin, who blocked it with his blades. The arrow vanished as if it had never existed.

"Show me what you've got, hero," said the Versin.

"That's Rokka! A Versin demon of scepter rank. She's here!" shouted a demon from afar.

Scepter? That's higher than Zabus… god damn it, I'm going to struggle in this fight. Man, who would've thought things would take this turn? Not even once did it cross my mind that she might be a demon. This truth will change how I see this world—this entire life. She kept staring at me, and it seemed I was her only target.

"Rokka... Even if you're a Versin demon of the scepter rank, that doesn't mean you'll win," I said as I prepared for a fast dash.

"I know, I know. Come on, let's begin."

I dashed toward her with insane speed, blades in hand. When I struck, all I touched were tongues of flame. I jumped back, realizing she had protected herself. Alright… I'll need to use my skills for this fight. She's not a normal demon. Suddenly, a blazing arrow sped toward me from within the flames. I barely managed to deflect it with my sword.

But it seemed like a failed attempt. I fell to the ground but quickly got up, dodging any follow-up attacks. Her arrow speed was unbelievable. It was insane—avoiding them would be nearly impossible, even though I was the most agile among the heroes. These arrows were just too hard to dodge.

I had to create an opening to use a skill attack. I rushed her again, this time managing to predict some of her shots and dodge them. Okay, let's test how smart she really is. As I got close enough to strike, I suddenly vanished from her sight, then reappeared behind her. At that moment, I slashed with one of my swords.

"Dumbass," I muttered as I backed away, leaving her back bleeding.

"Really?" she whispered, and the wound began to close until it fully healed.

What the! Now we're using cheat tricks. This time, she was the one who charged, claws aimed straight at my face. I ducked and vanished, avoiding the strike, but I realized my rune had run out. Fuck, I didn't even get to use weapon control yet.

She started launching arrows rapidly—did she know my rune had expired? I ran swiftly, dodging them all, but one managed to hit my thigh. I stumbled but didn't fall. She took the chance to fire a fireball—this bitch! I shielded myself with my sword and thought of my next move.

I charged again. This time, she didn't attack. It was like she was waiting for me. Fuck you, I couldn't even vanish. I struck hard with my blade, but she blocked it with her claws. Damn! That's impossible! I jumped back quickly, but she lunged again. I suddenly dropped flat to avoid her attack, then rolled hard and kicked her in the face, retreating again.

"You're one annoying rabbit," she said, wiping the blood from her mouth.

"Dagger Storm!" I suddenly shouted.

Glowing daggers formed and rained down on her at great speed. It seemed like the perfect moment. She tried to protect herself with her blue flames, but some daggers managed to pierce through and leave a few wounds. Good, it's time for the next attack. I dashed forward and jumped high to distract her—but I guess I was being stupid and forgot to consider her counterattack.

A blue flaming spear surged toward me. It was fast. I tried to dodge mid-air, but it still grazed me. I crashed to the ground and saw my wrists slightly burned, and my armor was almost shattered. She started firing arrows, but I dodged all of them with acrobatic moves. Damn, did my agility increase?!

"You really are an annoying rabbit!" she screamed. Seems I pissed her off.

At that moment, blue fire wrapped around her horns, and flames flowed from her eyes too. Another transformation or what? She raised her hand and fired another fire spear—but this time, even when I dodged, it followed me!! It struck my back, slamming me to the ground hard. Damn, that was a lethal hit... but I didn't die. I tried to get up, but the burns on my back were severe.

That bitch cast a homing attack! I stood up and started thinking about my next move. Honestly, I wasn't just thinking about an attack—I was thinking of any way to survive... I should've let Linda fight her. What a fucking dumb I was. Fine, I'll do one last strike. The dagger storm cooldown is over. Alright, let's do it.

"Dagger Storm!!!" I yelled.

"Dark Nightmare!!!!" I added.

Using two skills should work. The daggers came down again, and the black X-shaped slash shot toward her. They were fast, and when they hit, a massive explosion followed. I couldn't see anything—dust clouds rose, sand flew everywhere, and the place started burning with her blue flames. Did I kill her?

The dust slowly cleared, revealing her still standing—but this time, she had several wounds and was bleeding. Good! Yeah! I've brought her down to my level—or maybe worse. She stared at me with those eyes full of revenge. But what can she do like this? Wait—she can heal herself! But she didn't. She kept standing there, bleeding.

"Runari!!!" Sebastian yelled as he ran toward her. Bro, what the??!!

"Runari, why?! Why did you do all this?!"

"Sebastian... I did all this just for you," the bitch whispered.

"What?..."

"I don't care if the demons win or if Yarum wins. The only thing that matters to me is you... Sebas, look around you. You still haven't discovered the truth I found. All your companions were planning to kill you!"

"Huh?!" I shouted, shocked.

"What?!" Sebastian muttered.

"Just like you heard. They never liked you. You were always an obstacle to them. Being with me made them see you as someone who didn't belong. Since then, they've been waiting for the right moment to get rid of you," she said.

"Didn't you notice? Ever since that fight with Kevin, they've been ignoring you and only talking to him. Think back. Everything is obvious now, but you were too blind to see it."

"So, you guys planned to kill me," Sebastian said, turning to me.

"Bro, What the fuck are you talking about?! Why would we kill you when we all want to go back to our world?" I replied.

Did she use some kind of brainwashing ability? This is insane. He believed her so easily—without a second thought. That's terrifying. I can't believe it. One of the heroes switching sides to the demons? That would be insane... a total disaster. We can't even kill him. I never imagined things would end up like this.

He fired a magic ball directly at me. I managed to dodge it, but he looked serious. Naaahh, at this point—nah, I'm done. I backed away. I have to run. I can't face both of them alone. He kept casting spells, and I kept dodging. But suddenly, a massive ball hit me. I crashed to the ground and started sliding across the dirt. Aaaghhh.

"Yes! Well done, my dear Sebas! Kevin was the one who started all this, so you have to kill him!!" the bitch shouted.

I'm going to die. I tried to get up, but it was hard. He and his bitch approached. He looked at me with a stare I'll never forget. Gosh, I must've looked so pathetic. Fuck youuu!! After a moment, he stopped, still staring at me. I'm dead. Yes, I'm going to die now. I never expected I'd die at the hands of this fucker.

"Why? Why are you doing all this??!!" I shouted, staring at him.

"Do you remember last year, when it was raining and we were playing basketball? You said, 'I do this for the huzz...' So now, me too... I'm doing this for the huzz," he answered with a cold expression.

"Listen, you fucker. You're just a crazy idiot. What you're doing right now makes no sense. You're turning your back on your ultimate goal and siding with the demons?! How the hell do you expect to return to our world?!"

"And who said I want to go back?"

"Golden Caster!!!" a voice shouted from afar.

A golden beam suddenly shot out, but Sebastian shielded himself and his bitch with a magic barrier, then jumped back. That's when Linda finally appeared. Phew, I almost died. She stood between Sebastian and his bitch. She didn't look shocked. Did she see this coming? She pointed her spear at the bitch and shouted: "Whatever you did, give Sebastian back now!"

"Shut the fuck up, hero. You were also planning to kill me, so don't play the enforcer now. I always bullied you, and that wounded your pride. So don't act all righteous, because I know what each of you really wanted," Sebastian replied.

"She's brainwashed him. Talking won't work. We have to bring him back," Linda said as she prepared for battle.

It seems the heroes' paths have taken wild turns—crazy twists, as Kevin would say. On this day, the heroes lost one of their own... to their worst enemy, the demons. This will change many things and flip tables that were never balanced to begin with. The chaos happening now is hard to keep up with. That's exactly what Linda and Kevin are dealing with—just pure shock and confusion.

Desires shift quickly—some with purpose, some without. Fates tangle in ways no one expects. Beginnings end, and endings begin... all in ways no one could've predicted. Maybe now we can say that the battlefield in the far west is no longer just a battlefield, but a stage of madness and random chaos—full of wild turns that the heroes are swept into without rest.

So how will the future look amidst all this?
