Kiara POV
I don't know if that was Lucius," I whispered, my voice barely holding steady. "But I know one thing for sure… I can't trust anybody now."
Veryon's hands found my arms gentle, grounding, but firm. "But you can trust me," he said, eyes locking with mine. Then slowly, he reached behind my neck and pulled me into his chest.
That was all it took.
The walls I'd fought so hard to keep up cracked. A soft sob escaped me, then another. I clung to him as the chaos inside me pressed down on every breath.
None of it made sense. So I died… and it was by the hand of the one person I thought I'd lost?
The image hit me again blood, betrayal, a flash of silver. A sword I knew.
Lucius.
A man I once trusted. Once loved.
My thoughts crashed into each other like waves. How could Athena have survived that? Watching the father of her child, the man she chose, drive a blade into her chest?
