After running for nearly three hours with short breaks in between them, we finally decided to catch our breaths again. By this point, our destination was still distant but much closer than before.
The atmosphere felt gloomy, seeing as we understood what we were getting into.
"It's rather strange how they managed to get to us quickly," Eiko said at some point; her emerald eyes were filled with thoughts, and so were mine.
"It is. I wonder if it's a technique..."
"That they all use? If so, they are more dangerous than we'd ever estimated."
A feeling rose in my heart at this conversation; it felt like I had something to say but had no idea what. I tried and tried, but nothing came.
"Despite my efforts," Eiko sighed, recalling the men that had fallen. She had to accept it as life nonetheless. Even as a knight, there was only so much she could achieve alone. She wasn't even the strongest of all knights—not nearly so—and was only talented in her own category.
