A blinding white flash filled Javier's screen for a moment.
When the feed cleared, the vampire was gone, escaped in that brief window.
Javier exhaled. "Whatever… I'm sure that weirdo will run into Hesbeirn on his way out."
He turned the knight's attention toward the spot where the bottle had been thrown.
Don't tell me that was poison? If it's just poison… well, I can probably purify it.
The armored knight moved toward the lake's edge to collect a water sample.
But the ground trembled. The water in the center of the lake began bubbling.
"What now?" Javier sighed. The knight reached back, pulled the mana rifle from its mount, and powered it up with a low hum.
He aimed the rifle toward the churning water. "Well… I think this charge should be enough for whatever's coming."
The water burst upward.
One by one, massive serpentine heads erupted from the churning surface.
