After a brief moment of stunned confusion, Lin Ye figured out why the girl was so angry.
It was the little nurse. It was Ryou Fujibayashi.
That was a real problem.
He and Ryou were already sleeping together — infinitely more intimate than anything he'd done with Yukino Yukinoshita.
His head throbbed. He had no idea how to explain or handle this relationship any better.
"Yukino, it's getting late. I should head back now,"
Of the thirty-six stratagems, retreat was the best.
If he didn't leave now, when would he ever get the chance?
Being interrogated by the girl later would be bad news.
Even so, Lin Ye suspected she'd ask anyway.
Before long,
the girl's voice reached his ears — he didn't even make it out the apartment door.
"You're just going to leave like that?"
Her voice was cool, laced with resentment and discontent.
Pressure spiked in Lin Ye the moment he heard it.
It wasn't that he feared her — it was the instinctive guilt of knowing he'd wronged her.
"It's pretty late, I really should get going,"
"Sleep here tonight,"
Yukino Yukinoshita stepped past Lin Ye and put her back against the apartment door. Her cool tone made her resolve plain.
She wasn't letting him leave tonight.
Lin Ye felt helpless.
He couldn't even leave now?
"Yukino, about that..."
"Stay the night here, or don't ever come back,"
Her stance was set.
Lin Ye knew this time she was genuinely furious — genuinely resolved.
"Fine, I won't go. I'll stay the night,"
Feelings always required mutual compromise.
In their exchanges, it was usually Yukino who gave ground, but that didn't mean he never did.
With her in this mood now, he needed to compromise too, needed to show her where he stood.
It was just staying the night. No big deal.
"I'll go take a shower first,"
Lin Ye said, already moving to slip away.
But Yukino spoke again. "An explanation. I want an explanation."
She stared at him until he turned, and their eyes met.
The two of them locked gazes.
"Be specific, Yukino. I don't know what you mean by that,"
At the very least, Lin Ye didn't want to repeat his earlier mistake.
He needed to ask clearly first.
She might not even be talking about Ryou Fujibayashi — it could be something else entirely. So he had to ask. If she was worried about something unrelated and he blurted out the truth about Ryou, wouldn't that just be digging his own grave?
That was not what Lin Ye wanted.
Nor was it what she wanted, either.
"You really don't know?"
Yukino Yukinoshita shot back, her raised eyes carrying a hint of displeasure.
"I really don't. Just spell it out,"
Lin Ye kept up the act.
As long as Yukino didn't say it outright, he'd pretend nothing had happened. He didn't want a repeat of what happened with Mai.
"If you confess on your own, I might consider letting you off the hook,"
"No need. Just say it,"
She'd only said 'consider' — who knew what that actually meant?
Lin Ye had no intention of letting that scenario replay.
Faced with his stance, Yukino Yukinoshita slowly spoke. "Who's this nurse my sister mentioned?"
So it really was that.
Yukino had noticed after all.
He'd held out a shred of hope, but it was, unsurprisingly, wishful thinking.
"Is there such a person?"
"Lin Ye, are you seriously going to pretend with me?"
His answer displeased her, but it also made her even more curious — more certain there was something going on.
She wanted to know even more now.
"No,"
Lin Ye shook his head. "Miss Haruno did mention it. She's a friend of mine."
"A nurse friend?"
Yukino Yukinoshita enunciated each word.
"Yukino's jealous!"
The teasing words instantly stung her into embarrassment, a faint blush rising on her cheeks.
"Don't change the subject. Talk,"
Yukino wasn't about to let it go. She wanted an answer from Lin Ye.
This wasn't going to end easily — she was determined to know.
"Ugh, fine, that nurse was so enticing I couldn't help myself. I just ate her right up. Happy now?"
Yukino Yukinoshita: ???
Ate her?
Ate a nurse?
That 'ate' surely wasn't meant literally.
In a heartbeat, Yukino Yukinoshita worked out what he meant. She had some understanding of that kind of talk.
But the emotion that had just flared up quickly died down again.
There was no way Lin Ye would do that. No — she refused to believe it.
This jerk hadn't even touched her yet, let alone anyone else. Apart from Mai Sakurajima, Yukino didn't believe Lin Ye had slept with any other woman.
He was just trying to provoke her.
"Hah,"
Yukino Yukinoshita replied coldly.
Lin Ye knew he'd achieved his goal, but not quite fully, so he pressed on. "That nurse uniform was incredible. Too bad a certain girlfriend of mine won't wear one — she can't satisfy that little wish of mine, so I'll just have to go find a pretty nurse instead."
As he spoke, he put on a wistful expression, making clear how much he longed for a nurse's uniform.
"Pervert,"
All Yukino Yukinoshita could think of now was just how lecherous Lin Ye was.
This guy had a thing for uniform fantasies — she already knew that. How else had he gotten her into a maid outfit before?
First the maid outfit, then a nurse's uniform — what tempting costume would be next?
A bunny girl?
A police uniform?
Something else?
Yukino ran through the possibilities and realized there was no shortage of tempting outfits.
She grew more and more irritated.
Why did Lin Ye have to be just like those other kinds of men, fond of this sort of thing?
She was annoyed, yet also a little pleased — she even found herself wondering if wearing those outfits might actually make Lin Ye's heart race enough to act on it.
But the instant that thought surfaced, she crushed it.
She mustn't dwell on it. She didn't need to dwell on it. She shouldn't dwell on it.
It was all pointless.
Yukino Yukinoshita told herself she couldn't indulge Lin Ye's unreasonable demands. No, absolutely not.
"If Yukino won't even satisfy my little wish, I'll just have to ask other girls for help. I already got Mai into a bunny girl outfit — next time I see her, she'll probably model it for me,"
So he was still hung up on the bunny girl outfit!
"And a police uniform too. I'll head to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and find a pretty policewoman, the sharp, dashing kind,"
"No policewoman would ever fall for you,"
Yukino Yukinoshita couldn't help but retort.
Lin Ye had plenty going for him — women who actually knew the real him rarely stayed unaffected. But a total stranger, especially a beautiful one just met — how could she suddenly fall for him?
That was completely impossible.
"You don't have confidence in my charm?"
"You could say that,"
Lin Ye scratched his head after hearing this. "Honestly, that's what I think too,"
This left Yukino Yukinoshita stunned.
He thought so too?
What was going on here?
"But I do have a method. You know it too,"
Lin Ye smiled. "I know exactly what I'm capable of,"
Hypnosis — hypnosis that could even shape memory. Making a woman with zero feelings for him fall for him wasn't exactly a difficult task.
"No. I forbid it,"
Yukino Yukinoshita said immediately, her tone unyielding.
She knew full well that if Lin Ye ever went down that road, there'd be no turning back.
If he dared use hypnosis now to make some girl fall for him, what else might he use it for later?
Yukino Yukinoshita didn't dare imagine.
So,
she couldn't let Lin Ye take that first step. Without step one, there'd be no two, three, four, five, six after it.
That was Yukino Yukinoshita's thinking.
"Give me a reason!"
"I'm your girlfriend. I'm your fiancée,"
"Not enough,"
But Lin Ye made his meaning clear.
This left Yukino Yukinoshita pursing her lips. "That's still not enough?"
"Right. If a certain girl were willing to wear a police uniform, I might just agree to it,"
In that instant, Yukino Yukinoshita understood — this bastard had been fixated on this the whole time.
Infuriating. Absolutely infuriating.
Yukino Yukinoshita clenched her fists, thoroughly displeased.
But after mulling it over, she said, "Pick something else,"
She felt she couldn't meet Lin Ye's condition, but maybe she could get him to swap it for something less outrageous.
"I refuse,"
But Lin Ye rejected it flatly, without a shred of hesitation, his tone firm.
It left Yukino Yukinoshita feeling there was no room for negotiation at all.
"Yukino, this is my bottom line. Non-negotiable,"
Lin Ye smiled at her, the expression making his stance clear.
Yukino Yukinoshita pursed her lips and thought it over. After a moment, she said, "Fine,"
She finally gave in.
Better she be the one to satisfy that particular urge of his than have him use hypnosis to hurt some other girl for the same purpose.
It was just a police uniform. Not exactly unbearable.
"Oh, and black stockings too,"
Yukino Yukinoshita: "..."
She looked at him with contempt, but that only made Lin Ye more excited.
"Yukino, when the time comes, will you look at me with that same disgusted expression, but let me admire you anyway? How does that sound?"
Lin Ye grew even more excited instead, speaking bluntly to the girl.
"Pervert."
Yukino Yukinoshita finally spat out that one word.
There was no other word to describe Lin Ye besides pervert.
Lin Ye shrugged. "Pervert it is, then. Since Yukino's already decided I'm a pervert, I'll just do more perverted things from now on. Besides, you don't actually mind, do you,"
Yukino Yukinoshita was stunned speechless again.
What did he mean, she didn't mind?
She, Yukino Yukinoshita, hated perverts more than anything.
"If you've got the nerve, do it. Let's see how perverted you can be,"
"Sure, okay. I'll just have to replay what happened to Miss Haruno with you sometime. That was pretty perverted, wasn't it?"
Lin Ye took a step closer, startling Yukino Yukinoshita into stepping back twice, putting distance between them.
For Yukino Yukinoshita, whatever her sister had gone through was something she absolutely never wanted to experience herself.
Even now, she clearly remembered her sister's reaction at the time.
That... had looked like a woman on the verge of being played to pieces, her cries for help still faintly echoing in Yukino's ears.
Yukino Yukinoshita didn't think she had more tolerance than her sister — if anything, when it came to being ticklish, she was even more sensitive.
So,
she refused it completely. She would only refuse.
"Scared?"
She instinctively wanted to answer 'who's scared,'
but didn't dare say it out loud.
She was afraid that if she said it, Lin Ye would use it against her.
"I refuse. If you ever dare do that to me, I'll never forgive you for the rest of my life,"
"Having Yukino remember me for a lifetime doesn't sound so bad,"
Lin Ye seemed even more interested now. "But since Yukino doesn't like the idea, I won't do it, haha. Miss Haruno fainting like that surely left an unforgettable mark on you."
Unforgettable, of course.
She remembered it vividly, remembered every detail — she couldn't forget it even if she tried.
"Anyway, you're not allowed to use hypnosis on other people casually, and definitely not to do weird things like that,"
Yukino Yukinoshita warned him, not sure whether Lin Ye would actually take it to heart or do as she said anyway.
But she'd given the warning first.
As long as Lin Ye agreed, she'd trust that he wouldn't do it in the future.
"I'll try. Depends on the situation,"
Lin Ye said.
He didn't give a full guarantee, but it seemed enough for Yukino.
It wasn't quite satisfying, but it was acceptable.
"Fine,"
Yukino Yukinoshita said.
Then,
the girl spoke again, bringing the conversation back to where it started.
"Who's the nurse?"
She hadn't forgotten. No matter what Lin Ye said, she never forgot.
For Yukino Yukinoshita, she needed to know at least who that nurse was, even if Lin Ye had only admired the woman's looks.
"Well..."
"I could just ask my sister,"
If she asked, Haruno would likely tell her.
But honestly, she didn't really want to ask her sister for the answer.
After all, her sister would probably embellish things, mix in some falsehoods — that was entirely possible, and Yukino wasn't confident she could tell truth from fiction in whatever Haruno said.
"A nurse at Chiba Central Hospital,"
"Name. Photo,"
At the girl's demand, Lin Ye took out his phone and turned Ryou Fujibayashi's photo toward her.
And the photo he'd chosen happened to be Ryou in her nurse's uniform, the pink outfit further highlighting the girl's cuteness.
Yukino Yukinoshita had to admit this nurse was cute and charming.
She shot Lin Ye a glare. "Don't get carried away and use your Hypnosis skill on her,"
She felt it necessary to warn him specifically about that — if Lin Ye actually made that mistake, it really wouldn't end well.
"I won't. If I actually abused my Hypnosis skill like that, Yukino, think about it — you'd be the first one in trouble,"
That earned Lin Ye another glare from Yukino Yukinoshita.
But it also told her that he was, in his own way, affirming her charm.
