Seeing the colossal tsunami rising like a wall, Kai remembered what happened in the movie's ending. Back then, a similar wave had threatened Alto Mare.
Latios sacrificed himself to save the city and humanity, using all his strength to dispel the disaster.
In the end, he gave up his life, becoming a Soul Dew to replace the corrupted one and continue protecting the city.
But now that Kai was here, he believed he could change that fate.
"This time, I won't let tragedy repeat itself!"
Latios had only been driven to sacrifice himself because he was gravely wounded and drained by the machine earlier. Even with Latias's help, their combined power was limited.
But what if another Pokémon, one who commanded the very essence of water, joined them?
If the Sea Guardian Lugia were here, it would be perfect but all the ones Kai had met before were too far away to arrive in time.
Thankfully, he still had another legendary Pokémon of his own.
Grasping a Great Ball from his belt, Kai whispered, "It's our turn to save this city."
Latias and Latios, hovering near the top of the Sun Tower, had already spotted the monstrous wave. They exchanged a look, then circled above the spire. From here, they could feel the sheer scale and devastating force of the tsunami.
Panting heavily, Latios floated in the air. It could have fled with Latias, abandoning Alto Mare but after living here so long, and by its very nature, it could not bear to watch the city be destroyed.
Resolute, Latios prepared to dive toward the wave when a man's voice stopped him.
"Latios, wait! I have an idea we might be able to stop it together!"
Turning, Latios saw a young man standing at the Sun Tower's tip Kai. He recognized him as the human Latias had once brought into the Secret Garden. Dragonite hovered at his side, the Pokémon that had carried him up here.
Even the first time they met, Latios sensed something unusual about Kai. From his belt radiated two strong auras other legendary Pokémon.
Weakly, Latios cried out, and Kai understood without needing Gengar's translation.
He opened the Great Ball. With a flash of blue light, Suicune appeared.
Kai stroked its flowing mane and turned to Latios. "You don't need to bear this alone. Suicune will fight with you."
Latios and Latias gazed at Suicune, awed by its noble figure and tranquil strength. They could feel its immense energy.
Kai pointed toward the incoming wall of water. "The wave is coming from one direction. You're thinking of striking its crest, breaking its structure so the part heading toward the city collapses, right?"
Latios nodded.
"That will work—but it'll cost you dearly. With Suicune's help, you won't have to face that price alone."
Mounting Dragonite again, Kai urged, "Details later we have no time. Let's meet the wave head-on while we still can!"
Latios and Latias followed Dragonite, soaring toward the sea. Suicune bounded from rooftop to rooftop, leaping swiftly toward the coast.
From the plaza, Ash and the others looked up as Kai passed overhead with Dragonite, Latias, and Latios. They placed their hopes on him.
Nearby, Lorenzo and Bianca gasped as Suicune raced past them, realizing only now that Kai commanded such a powerful Pokémon.
Only Erika's eyes stayed worried, knowing how dangerous this task would be.
The night wind was cold, and Kai's soaked clothes clung to him after the earlier storm. Beneath him, the seabed raced by. Within moments, they had flown far beyond Alto Mare. Ahead loomed the tsunami itself.
At this distance, the wave's terror was overwhelming. Towering into the heavens, it blotted out the stars, an entire mountain of water rushing forward.
"Here!" Kai shouted over the roar. "Latios, Latias—use your full strength! Suicune will strike with you!"
The sea's roar was deafening, forcing him to shout just to be heard.
Suicune had reached the shoreline below. Latias and Latios glanced down, then nodded. They gathered what little remained of their strength, their bodies blazing with white light.
Together, they shot upward like twin suns, hurling their energy into the heart of the wave.
At the same time, Suicune unleashed its own attack, summoning a torrent of pure water energy to join theirs.
One beam from the sky, one from the earth both collided with the wave at a single point.
With a thunderous explosion, the wave's crest erupted, blasting apart as though a bomb had detonated.
A gaping hole split the towering wall of water.
