" Kevin" jewel rushed to kevin who sat outside, exhausted and a little bloody.
" What happened?' her eyes filled with worry.
" Keith" Kevin struggled to speak. The punch Keith gave him was enough to make him gasp for air.
Jewel's beautiful eyes welled up in tears and her voice cracked" w-what how? He's taken everything. What more does he wants?"
"Th.. the house"
" The house? He took the house?"
"H.. he put it up for rent, a year's tenure"
" Oh no... Fucking bastard" she sniffs and tried to lift Kevin" let's go. You need to go to the hospital"
" But.."
" Don't speak. Oh Kevin, you know he's a gangster. He has goons. Just why? Why did you fight with him?"
Her brother gave a hurtful smile"I.. it would seem like I'm a coward. I didn't want to give in sis. I couldn't... The house is all we've got"
Jewel tears kept falling as she shook her head" still, look at what he's done to you" she gently dragged him towards the road looking for a taxi.
" It's late... We won't see a taxi"
" How long did this happen?"
Kevin gasped and jewel flashed him an apologetic look but the former just smiled" like two hours ago?"
" Oh dear... That's a long time.. oh and it's late. Fucking Keith... Fucking taxis... "
" You curse when you are angry sis. Why don't you call the ambulance?"
" I'm sorry..." She took a deep breath" you are right.. I'm just so confused. Hang on" she pulled out her phone.
"911 what's your emergency?"
" Hello, please my brother is severely hurt"
" Please send your address"
"21..."
" Do you need any help?" A voice got their attention and jewel slightly looked back" sir? I thought.. you left already"
" I came to get something" he glanced at her phone" you don't need to disturb them.. I'll help him".
" Ah but..." He grabbed her phone and cut the call.
" I'll help" he said again. Ian put his hand around Kevin's waist and supported him. Jewel felt her armsmoving again as she was free from supporting Kevin.
" You don't need to disturb yourself sir.."
" Don't... I just happened to pass by and I saw you struggling"
" Oh" she pressed her lips into a thin line, not wanting to ask him further again.
Soon they were on the road with Ian driving. Jewel looked back at the already sleeping Kevin. Her eyes stung with tears.
" You are tearing up"
" I'm sorry" she blinked trying to force the tears back
" It's okay. Tell me what happened to him"
She looked down, unsure to tell him about her family problems.
"M.. my step brother took our house. Kevin tried to stop him but he got beaten up so badly. Now we have no where to go"
" Hmm... You can stay in my house"
" Sir?" Jewel eyes went wide with suprise
" It's only for the meantime anyway. I'll look for a small condo and see if I can your house back. It is your parents house right?"
She gave a nod" the house is my parents'. But sir, you don't have to worry.. I.. I can take care of myself"
Ian chuckled. She's always refusing
" You have no where to go"
". I can still take care of myself".
" Oh really? Take it as a favor miss Langford"
Jewel felt conflicted. They still call each other formally but it felt like their daily interaction is far deeper and more intimate than that.
" I... I can't.. is this your serenading?"
He chuckled again"no. It will be something much more unforgettable. I won't make you feel feel uncomfortable you'll see"
" Alright..." She gave a polite bow of the head" thank you sir... I owe you a lot"
He didn't reply and just drove on.
