Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The King's Return

At Jiangning International Airport, a young man in a tattered black cloak slowly walked toward the security checkpoint.

As the young man passed through the checkpoint, a red alarm light on the side suddenly blared, the piercing sound instantly drawing the attention of all security personnel and travelers.

"Sir, please stop!" a beautiful policewoman in a black uniform called out as she rushed over to block his path.

Ye Fan was slightly stunned, his gaze shifting to the policewoman before him. Her black police uniform couldn't hide her stunning curves. Her ample chest strained against the tight-fitting shirt, threatening to burst free. Beneath her police cap, long, flowing curls cascaded over her shoulders. Her eyes held an allure that could drive men mad. A light layer of perfectly applied makeup accentuated her oval face, and her moist, red lips were both sexy and enchanting.

Ye Fan carefully appraised the policewoman, unable to help his silent admiration. Her figure and face are both top-notch!

"Sir, please present your ID. We also need to conduct a security check," the beautiful policewoman said in a cold voice, feeling his scrutinizing gaze.

Ye Fan shook his head in surprise. "A security check? Didn't I already get checked before boarding the plane?"

"I'm sorry, but we've recently heightened security at Jiangning International Airport. Multiple checks are required," the policewoman said, her tone firm and her expression cold.

In truth, she was the head of the Major Crimes Unit of the Jiangning Police Station. The reason she had come to Jiangning International Airport to perform security checks was that she had received intelligence from her superiors. A notoriously vicious international mercenary army was expected to arrive in Jiangning with cutting-edge weapons to carry out a job. For this reason, security at the entire Jiangning International Airport had been raised to the highest level.

"That's not necessary. As you can see, I'm not carrying anything. There's no need for another check, right?" Ye Fan said helplessly.

"Just do as you're told! What are you dawdling for?" one of the two male officers assisting her barked.

Ye Fan sighed, raised his hands, and slowly turned around.

The policewoman held a handheld scanner, meticulously and slowly passing it over Ye Fan's body. As the scanner passed over his shoulder, the device's red light began to flash. BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

The security personnel present immediately tensed, and the atmosphere in the hall grew heavy. The two male officers behind her immediately drew their guns, ready to subdue Ye Fan without hesitation if he made any sudden moves. Even the travelers watching from the sidelines were shocked, their eyes nervously glued to the scene.

"Sir, remove your outer garment!" the policewoman ordered again.

Ye Fan had no choice but to slowly take off his ragged black cloak. Underneath was a black elastic shirt. However, the shirt looked like it had been shredded by some terrifying force. It was riddled with holes of all sizes, revealing the powerful muscles beneath. She scanned the black cloak but detected nothing.

The policewoman was a little surprised. She brought the scanner closer to Ye Fan's upper body. Sure enough, as it neared his shoulder, the device began to beep again.

At the sound, a chill went down the spines of everyone in the security hall. The two male officers behind the policewoman tensed, their bodies rigid. Not far away, a well-equipped security team watched intently, poised to act at a moment's notice. Their presence added a grim tension to the air. Ye Fan was well aware of the stares from the numerous police and security personnel. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, but his chiseled face remained impassive.

"Take off the shirt!" the policewoman commanded sternly. Her heart pounded in her chest. Could he be a member of the International Mercenary Army?

Ye Fan paused for a moment but offered no resistance. He silently removed the tattered black elastic shirt, revealing his muscular torso.

An absolute silence fell. In an instant, everyone present froze in stunned disbelief.

His perfectly sculpted muscles were a tapestry of terrifying scars. Under the bright lights of the airport terminal, the countless wounds—big and small, many like gashes from a knife—were incredibly stark. The policewoman's lovely face froze, her beautiful eyes fixed intently on the young man's torso.

The two male officers' gazes sharpened, fixed on the young man. If he made the slightest move, they would not hesitate to aim their guns at him and restrain him with handcuffs. Meanwhile, a unit of armed security personnel quickly moved in to disperse the crowd of onlookers. They completely surrounded Ye Fan, and the atmosphere in the hall grew instantly taut to the breaking point.

The armed personnel stood ready, their weapons aimed at the young man. However, when they saw the dense web of knife gashes and bullet wounds covering his body, they all sucked in a sharp breath. These were not ordinary men. They had all been in real-life shootouts with criminals, so they knew that every single scar told a story of a life-or-death struggle. But most people would be lucky to survive one or two such brutal wounds. Why was this young man covered in them, as if they were nothing out of the ordinary? What kind of past did he have?

Finally, the airport's most advanced metal detector began its scan. A security officer stared intently at the device's screen as astonishing three-dimensional images began to appear. The officer's jaw dropped. He glanced from the screen to the young man's shoulder, his expression a mixture of bewilderment and utter disbelief.

"What did you find?" the policewoman asked tensely into her earpiece, her eyes still locked on Ye Fan.

"B-bullet casings!" the officer stammered, his words shocking everyone present.

Ye Fan stood perfectly still. His powerful physique seemed cast from bronze, like a statue in a painting, resolute and unyielding.

The policewoman stood frozen, her stunning features rigid with shock as she stared at Ye Fan. Her cherry-red lips quivered slightly. Bullet casings? There are bullet casings embedded in his shoulder, yet he's acting like nothing's wrong… Just what has this man been through?

With the results in, the armed personnel visibly relaxed. The immediate threat was gone, but they were still filled with shock and curiosity.

Seeing that the guns were no longer aimed at him, Ye Fan put his clothes back on, covering the latticework of scars. He then shrugged with a wry smile and said helplessly, "What a hassle."

Then, as everyone watched, Ye Fan stretched out his arms and gave his shoulders a slight shake.

As his powerful muscles flexed, a faint cracking sound emanated from his shoulder. CRACKLE! SNAP! Beneath his dark skin, a sliver of metallic light glinted as a bullet casing was forced out of a tiny fissure.

SWOOSH!

With a soft grunt from Ye Fan, the bullet casing shot out like a deadly projectile, striking a nearby alloy steel frame.

Everyone who saw it gasped. The casing had pierced a hole several centimeters deep into the alloy frame. The force behind it was even greater than that of an actual bullet.

"Phew, much better," Ye Fan said, patting the small, freshly opened wound on his shoulder. His face showed no sign of pain; in fact, he looked almost relieved.

Ye Fan then turned to the beautiful policewoman. She was still standing rooted to the spot, her gorgeous face a mask of disbelief.

"So, Officer, can I go now?" Ye Fan asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

"Uh…" The policewoman stammered, taking a moment to regain her composure. "Y-you can go."

"Hey, Officer," Ye Fan said with a roguish grin. "Before I go, can I get your number?"

The policewoman's expression stiffened, and a blush crept across her fair cheeks. After a moment's hesitation, she said flatly, "That won't be necessary."

"Alright then. See you around," Ye Fan said with a small smile. He didn't press the issue and simply turned to leave.

Every eye in the hall followed Ye Fan's retreating figure.

The policewoman silently watched him go, her mind filled with curiosity. She muttered to herself, "We will meet again, won't we?"
