Lance's relaxed, non-aggressive conversation caused Devine to start feeling confused because, suddenly, Lance's words seemed somewhat reasonable.
He shook his head, trying to shake the confusion out of his mind.
But the more one thinks about something, the harder it is to forget, "I don't know."
His expression told Lance that this man was struggling internally, starting to waver, which was a good sign.
Lance took out a cigarette, "Want one?"
He hesitated, then nodded, and the two of them lit the cigarettes in their hands. Lance, with his legs crossed, looked at him, "From a more grassroots perspective, you are the executioner destroying their happiness."
