The voice coming from the receiver caught the attention of one of the young men, and he walked over to the phone.
The sound of his studded leather shoes on the floor was different from that of a woman's shoes, and Eugene on the other end fell silent.
He realized someone had picked up the receiver and heard the faint breathing sounds.
Neither spoke, maintaining silence.
After about ten seconds, Eugene asked, "Who are you?"
"Outskirts... I'll give you forty minutes."
"If you're not here in forty minutes, you might as well start picking out a burial plot for your family!"
With that, the person hung up the phone, and a strong sense of fear rose in Eugene's heart!
He quickly dialed the number again, but apart from the stubbornly ringing phone in the house, there was no other sound.
Neither appliances nor people.
