Dove
I woke up to something bouncing on my chest.
Not my alarm. Not Ma shouting. Bouncing.
I opened one eye and Piquito was standing right on my sternum, all four tiny paws on my t-shirt, yawning so loudly it was almost a squeak. Her big pink ears were up, her white fur was all messy from sleep, and she was bouncing — literally bouncing in place like a little popcorn kernel.
"Good morning to you too, Piquito," I whispered, my voice still hoarse and sleepy.
She was a lot more active now. Yesterday she had been sleepy, barely able to open those big black eyes, but this morning she was awake. She did another bounce, her little butt wiggled, and then she flopped down right on my chest with a sigh, her head on my collarbone, looking up at me.
She was the cutest. Oh my god, the cutest girl ever.
