Lyra was lost.
She stood in the center of the outer courtyard of the flying castle, her hand gently brushing the smooth, polished white stone beneath her feet. Since arriving, she hadn't been able to find her way. Every hallway looked the same. Every building towered like a monument. And worst of all, she was far too shy to ask anyone for directions.
"Why is this castle so big…" Lyra muttered, half irritated, half amazed.
She glanced down again, tapping the marble-like surface with her fingers.
"What kind of magic could possibly lift something this massive…"
