The office was quiet. Too quiet.
The blinds were half drawn, letting thin strips of afternoon light cut across the room in golden slashes. Jayden sat in the chair opposite Principal Thompson, his posture stiff, his expression unreadable. The principal leaned back in his seat, hands folded on the desk between them, his eyes locked onto Jayden with a piercing calm.
Neither spoke at first, just the sound of the wall clock ticking, each second dragging heavier than the last.
Finally, Principal Thompson broke the silence.
"So... I want to believe you're already aware of your true nature?"
Jayden's brows furrowed. "I am." His hand curled into a fist against his knee.
A small chuckle escaped Thompson. "But you don't seem happy about it, kid. I expected you to be... elated—euphoric, even. After all, who wouldn't be if they discovered they were a powerful, mythical creature from fairytales and urban legends?"
