Chapter 124 - No Need For Acts

Chase was freezing.

His skin was numb, and his hair had turned to brittle strands of ice.

It was hard to remember how long the game had been going on for, but the score was as of right now, in utter defeat.

They were down by nearly six with no way of coming back.

And that's with Chase not even having touched the ball once.

There was truly no way to stop the onslaught.

He couldn't even tell what was wrong with him, and he wasn't thinking about the terrible cold.

Something internally was burning, piercing, and tearing apart his soul.

Perhaps it was shame, or maybe he was just being drowned in the cold.

No no, he knew both were not the answers.

It was pride.

His orders were to sell the game, but his heart wanted too win.

He wanted too win.

Pushing his body forward, he grabbed the trunk of one of the many frozen over spruce trees. Pressing all of his Axis energy into his palm, he pushed himself off the tree and toward a random direction.

The Frostfang team had actually avoided any movement on the flank side of the coliseum.

And they had been damn good at keeping the ball out of the Phoenix attacker's hands.

Which meant that Chase hadn't even gotten a chance to fight one of the opposing players.

During halftime, the team had been in utter defeat at that point.

Everyone's heads were hung low, including his own.

The only one who seemed unphased by the distraught of Frostfang's powerful force, had been Neo of House Cobra.

In fact Chase had not even seen him in the locker rooms at halftime.

Then he spotted an immediate action sequence taking place near a small frozen river.

Sliding down the mound of frozen snow, he jumped into the air and grabbed the shirt of one of the three Frostfang defenders.

The boy seemed quite shocked, but had a dangerous expression already planted on his face.

Chase pulled the boy with all of his might, bringing him down into the frozen river with him.

Leo yelled something from nearby, while falling headfirst into the ice Chase was able to spot a leather ball in the hands of one of the other defenders.

CRACK!

Followed by a splash, the ice broke from the pressure of the two players.

Chase was surrounded in a seemingly vast expanse of water.

But the feeling of drowning was nothing compared to the terrible freezing sensation of the powerful current of the water.

The boy thrashed violently, while Chase refused to let go of the boy.

Pulling himself closer, he wrapped an arm around the throat of the boy.

Then someone else broke through the ice, and the water started to turn a shade of bright ice-blue.

The other boy shot forward, pushing Chase into the bottom of the river in nearly an instant.

"Umph, Mphm!"

Was all he was able to get out, before a boy with spiky ice colored hair began to strangle him at the bottom of the ocean.

His cold hands wrapped around Chase's throat, striking an instant of near death realization.

Letting his flames take charge, he began to heat up the air around him. Which was normally against the rules, but technically so was strangling an opponent underwater.

Ripping his arm free from the river bed's dirt, he grabbed the boy's face and squeezed as hard as he could.

With a mere moment of panic from the attacking force, Chase ripped free and shot toward the top of the river as quick as he could.

Another crack echoed throughout the loud roar of the Frostfang crowd, as the entire frozen river began to break open.

Chase threw himself onto one of the snowy shores of the river, his breath seeming to fail him.

Then another force had descended upon him, launching him into the snow before he could even get a reading on what was going on.

"You're the Stray?"

A crazed feminine voice called out from some direction that he couldn't find.

His head was buried in the terribly cold snow, that had to have been about two meters deep.

Feeling a terrible sense of dread, he powered out of the snow. His Axis energy seeming to drop to scarcely low levels.

Only inches in front of him, was a terrible set of eyes.

Dark blue gemstones were staring down at his previously immobilized state, with an amused hint hidden within them.

"Whatchya doin?"

The girl with raven-purple hair asked with a grin sliding onto her sharp face.

Feeling his senses screaming at him, with a terrible sense of urgency. He siphoned Axis into his legs swiftly and shot into the air.

'I need too know what the hell is going on!'

He thought, finally getting a second to breathe.

The girl soared into the air below him, and another signature showed up in the far reaches of his vision.

And then another shadow also ascended, this time directly in front of him.

He was surrounded.

'At least go for the guy with the ball...'

Twisting his body instantly, he dodged one of the attacking defenders.

Which was a strange contradiction that his mind couldn't help but ponder.

The second attack he couldn't dodge, slamming into his blindside was a terrible force that felt as if it froze his flesh and fabric on contact.

Soaring into the ground once more, Chase summoned his sword and twisted his body diagonally.

There was no real positivity within him, on whether or not this would work but he had to do something.

"Screw the damned rules..."

He growled, flying straight toward the ground.

No player was ever supposed to wield a weapon of any type, nor wield their active Primis abilities, with the acceptation of passive ones which he didn't know much about.

But that clearly wasn't stopping the Frostfang forces from playing dirty.

So, why should it stop him?

Swiftly letting Hero's Fang lead, he dug the tip of the cobalt blade into the frozen ground below him, letting his body follow.

As the sword yanked him forward, he let the momentum carry him in the lead. Letting the scraping blade stop his swift movement.

Before he had even come to a stop, he let Hero's Fang dissipate back into its ruin.

Slowly sliding backward, his vision narrowed on the far edge of the small clearing he had landed in.

"Where the hell is my team at?"

He sighed, letting his hand gently brush against the burning skin on his throat that had been savagely attacked by the Frostfang defender.

Something was clearly wrong.

It was like the entire team had gotten ejected, leaving only him and whoever had decided too actually push through this terrible game, left.

Then three pairs of glowing eyes radiated with light, within the frozen forest of the arena.

Lifting his arms up in some sort of half-hearted manner, he prepared himself to fight the oncoming attack.

Be it a game or not, Chase would gladly kill these bastards...
