Chapter 485 - Planetary Devastation!

TYRAAAAAAR!

The berserk roar was deafening. With a body massive enough and strength overwhelming enough, even Growl became a devastating attack.

Sound waves rippled outward from Mega Dynamax Tyranitar like shockwaves, stirring up towering waves that surged in all directions for thousands of meters.

"Gardevoir, contain the power! Don't let it spread to Shamouti Island," John commanded through their psychic link. He simultaneously transmitted tactical information through aura wavelengths to his two Pokemon already engaged in battle.

Fortunately, only Asia Island sat relatively close to the Three God Islands. Otherwise, John couldn't guarantee that surrounding towns and settlements wouldn't be obliterated.

High above, an even deeper darkness emerged.

A massive dimensional rift tore open, revealing glimpses of another world. Countless boulders began raining down from the void.

John had commanded Mega Tyranitar to use Rock Slide, targeting not just Articuno, but all three legendary birds.

After all, they were all Flying-types, completely vulnerable to Rock-type attacks!

SCREEEE!

Articuno's sharp, icy gaze quickly locked onto Mega Tyranitar as its primary opponent.

Compared to the seemingly powerful but actually cumbersome giant, Articuno had no desire to engage the terrifying Dark Lugia directly.

"Hurricane!" Articuno spread its magnificent wings, generating twin tornadoes that swept toward Mega Tyranitar from both sides while circling at incredible speed.

"Dragon Claw." Mega Tyranitar coated both hands with dark green draconic energy, effortlessly tearing through the hurricanes.

Its level had been raised to 93 through John's intensive training, plus constant dietary supplements and rigorous conditioning. Fighting a legendary Pokemon ranked at the bottom of the divine hierarchy was well within its capabilities.

"Ice Beam!"

Just as Mega Tyranitar shredded the storm, Articuno struck with a point-blank facial attack.

Brilliant aurora light intertwined with bone-chilling cold, enough to freeze an entire mountain instantly.

However, John had no intention of defending. As for dodging? That word had vanished from Tyranitar's vocabulary since its MEGA evolution.

"Lock On!" John commanded coldly.

Mega Tyranitar took the freezing attack head-on. Within moments, frost coated its entire body, but it ignored the ice completely, focusing its predatory gaze directly on Articuno.

Articuno, still weaving between falling rocks at high speed, suddenly felt a needle-sharp sense of impending doom.

John had silently retrieved an ancient artifact, the Rock Horn, and raised it to his lips.

Hoooooo~

The primordial horn's call echoed across the sky, sweeping a desolate atmosphere over the entire Three God Islands.

Mega Tyranitar's battle fervor intensified as earthen power continuously surged up from where it stood.

John extended his arm, revealing his Z-Power bracelet. He pressed a Rockium-Z crystal into the groove and began the ritual chant:

"Roar, heartbeat of the earth!"

"Pierce the heavens, shake the very bedrock!"

Despite the somewhat theatrical incantation, John struck a dramatic pose as earthy yellow energy rolled across his body. Finally, he clasped his palms together like a ninja performing hand seals.

All the ochre energy shot directly into Mega Tyranitar's massive form.

"Z-Move: Planetary Devastation!"

TYRAAAAAAAR!

Mega Tyranitar's roar shattered the frost coating its body.

Every piece of rock floating in the sky suddenly froze mid-fall. The next second, they fired toward Articuno like a torrential downpour.

Articuno managed to dodge several chunks with Rock Smash, but couldn't possibly avoid rocks coming from every conceivable angle. It attempted to freeze the projectiles with ice moves, hoping to disrupt their trajectory, but more rocks kept coming, using the frozen stones as battering rams.

Within seconds, Articuno found itself completely encased in rock, trapped within an enormous stone sphere.

And the sphere kept growing larger.

A minute later, a colossal boulder large enough to level a city floated in the sky.

The already darkened world grew even dimmer.

The massive rock sphere blocked out all remaining light, creating an apocalyptic twilight, like the night before the world's end.

John stood on Lugia's back in the gathering darkness, gazing up at his Planetary Devastation with deep satisfaction.

"Now THIS is a proper Planetary Devastation!"

Previously, John had attempted to recreate this technique twice, once with Aggron, once with regular Tyranitar. Both attempts had fallen short of his vision.

Mega Tyranitar possessed far superior control over Rock-type energy. Even so, John had invested heavily in rare treasures that enhanced Rock-type manipulation abilities to feed his Pokemon.

"Time to end this."

After all, Pokemon battles aimed for decisive victory, not mere imprisonment. Trapping was only necessary for opponents too powerful to defeat outright, and John had yet to encounter a Pokemon worthy of such treatment.

The technique built upon the Z-Move Continental Crush, but incorporated elements of Rock Tomb and Diamond Storm.

This allowed Mega Tyranitar, after Mega Evolution plus Gigantamaxing, to perform what John called "Z-Move: Planetary Devastation."

The concept was flawless, though implementation had proven challenging.

True, it wasn't technically an trapping technique, but the visual effect was indistinguishable from the legendary Planetary Devastation. John couldn't be more pleased.

Combined with Lock On, it created an attack that rapidly condensed rocks around the target to block all escape routes.

During his free time, he'd conducted extensive development of Tyranitar's abilities.

Even then, John had needed the divine artifact known as the Rock Horn to achieve this result.

A true Planetary Devastation should be a trapping technique, sealing opponents within the rock sphere. Using the sphere as a direct projectile... well, that hardly qualified as proper Planetary Devastation.

But John felt this version suited his combat style perfectly.
