It's been two days since George last saw Claudia, and since then he hasn't been himself. He had thought Alanis was drunk the night he told him about his son, but Alanis did repeat the same thing the next morning.
George was scared. If everything his brother said was true, then Claudia really is a despicable person. She doesn't deserve to live anymore.
