Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Plan for the future (2)

"The reason why Jack is here is that you might be working with him a lot if you decide to become a superhero like me, or even if you just help me from the sidelines like Jack," Liam said.

"But what if I don't want to be a superhero?" I replied, thinking that I didn't really care about the association or the general public that much.

"Then you can't ever use your powers, because you might get found out by the association and kidnapped or something," Liam said seriously.

"Well, I will think about it. Can I go now? I'm already late for work, even if I leave right now," I said.

"Oh, don't worry about being late," Liam said with a grin.

"By the way, if you ever need to talk to Jack, he will be here. This is where he lives," Liam added.

"Yeah," Jack replied quickly.

"Oh, okay. Now what do we do about getting to work on time?" I asked Liam.

He squatted down, put his hands behind his back, and said, "Jump on!" excitedly.

I looked at Jack, who rolled his eyes as if he were used to Liam's antics.

"What about Jack? Doesn't he need to get to work?" I asked curiously, quickly accepting the fact that Liam wanted me to ride on his back. I was beginning to wonder if there was something wrong with my mental state for accepting all of this so fast—the absolutely ridiculous concept of jumping on his back to fly to work.

"Oh, Jack works from his computer here," Liam replied quickly, seemingly excited for me to jump on.

I began to think about how safe it was to get on his back like this and whether the speeds would harm my body.

"Are you sure this is safe?" I asked as I climbed onto Liam.

As Liam's feet finally left the ground, he replied, "Probably."

We zoomed through the air, and my cheeks felt like they were going to fall off from the speed. This reminded me of why most people who fly at high speeds wear masks. As I thought about how great it would be to have one, suddenly, a mask that looked like a bright red gas mask with black lining and a clear eye section appeared on my face. I noticed my clothes flailing around, so I imagined a wingsuit, but my head started to hurt. It seemed that only one thing could be created at a time, and it couldn't be too complicated either.

My face felt much better with the mask on, and I began to enjoy the view below, keeping the thought of the mask in the back of my mind so it wouldn't disappear. After a minute, I began to do it subconsciously, almost like placing it down somewhere in my mind and remembering it was there.

I noticed my house, and shortly after, I saw the superhero association. We began to land a couple of blocks away in an alleyway with no cameras, and I hopped off his back. Liam looked at me and jumped backward.

"AAAAH!" he exclaimed.

"What?" I replied.

"When did you put a mask on?" he asked curiously.

"Oh, that? I made it using my power," I told him.

"Oh god, I forgot to even ask what your powers are! I was so caught up in worrying about what we should do!" Liam exclaimed.

I looked at him for a second before realizing he was right; we had been so caught up in the moment that we forgot.

I quickly gave him the rundown of what I had discovered so far about my powers.

"You're so lucky; you have some awesome powers, man!" he replied hastily.

"Yeah, thanks," I said.

We began to leave the alleyway, and as we stepped out, we saw Asher up ahead. Liam ran over to him to say hello, and I walked slightly faster than usual toward him.

We all walked to work together like we usually do, talking and laughing. When we finally reached the association, alarms began flashing red and blaring like air raid sirens.
