Chapter 498: Two Great Ancestral Symbols
Within the barrier, the terrifying power of the Devouring Ancestral Symbol and the Spatial Ancestral Symbol surged wildly, engulfing the demon corpse completely.
Under the blazing radiance of these two mighty symbols, thick streams of demonic smoke rose from the corpse's skin, accompanied by ghastly, bone-chilling screams. The demon patterns covering the corpse's body writhed violently, as if desperately resisting the purification process.
"Ahhh!"
The agonized cries echoed sharply, causing Lin Langtian's heart to tense up further. He tightly clenched his fists, his eyes filled with intensity and determination. Controlling two Ancestral Symbols simultaneously demanded immense concentration, and even the slightest mistake could trigger disastrous consequences.
"Please hold on!" Lin Langtian shouted, increasing the energy output of both Ancestral Symbols.
Black and silver beams intertwined brilliantly, enveloping the corpse in an even brighter light. Under this overwhelming force, the demon energy began to recede significantly. The intricate, black demonic patterns gradually became fainter, replaced by the faint appearance of normal human skin beneath.
The corpse trembled uncontrollably, yet his eyes, previously dull and lifeless, now revealed hints of clarity and pain intertwined—a sign that the suppressed human consciousness was slowly regaining control.
"Endure a bit longer! You're almost free," Lin Langtian encouraged through gritted teeth, pouring even more of his strength into the symbols.
Outside the barrier, Mu Lingshan and Liu Da anxiously watched the unfolding scene, their gazes tense with worry as powerful energy fluctuations shook the surroundings.
"Brother Langtian, please be careful," Mu Lingshan murmured nervously, her small fists clenched tightly.
Liu Da and the others formed a vigilant defensive perimeter, fully aware that any unexpected interruption could prove disastrous.
Back inside, the struggle reached a critical juncture. The demon corpse, engulfed in radiant energy, suddenly released a final, heart-wrenching cry. Black smoke burst violently from every pore, rising like a thick fog. Within seconds, the once terrifying presence of demonic energy diminished rapidly, becoming weaker and weaker until it vanished entirely.
A moment later, the blinding energy slowly faded, revealing the figure of the former demon corpse now restored to a more human appearance. His previously distorted body, twisted by demonic corruption, had shrunk back to a normal size. The sinister black patterns had completely disappeared, replaced by aged but normal-looking skin.
Exhausted yet relieved, Lin Langtian withdrew the Ancestral Symbols back into his body, breathing heavily. The process had severely drained him, leaving him somewhat pale and fatigued.
The old man—now no longer a demon corpse—slowly opened his eyes, which were now filled with clarity and immense gratitude. He gently descended to the ground and respectfully bowed deeply to Lin Langtian.
"Thank you, young friend, for granting me freedom," the elderly figure said with heartfelt sincerity. "My name is Yan Xuan. Once, I served as the guardian of the Reincarnation Cave Mansion. Unfortunately, I fell victim to a plot of the Yimo and was corrupted by their evil Qi, becoming the wretched demon corpse you saw."
Lin Langtian nodded solemnly, responding respectfully, "Elder Yan, it's good that you're finally free. However, I must ask: do you have any knowledge about the Reincarnation Cave Mansion and its master?"
Yan Xuan smiled weakly, a look of nostalgia crossing his aged face. "Indeed, the master of this mansion was once the holder of the Devouring Ancestral Symbol. His strength and vision were exceptional, but his pursuit of greater power—specifically attempting to merge multiple Ancestral Symbols—led to his eventual downfall."
Lin Langtian's expression became thoughtful. It was a reminder of how dangerous ambition could be, even for someone possessing such formidable strength.
Yan Xuan sighed deeply. "The master's goal was noble, intending to protect the world from the Yimo invasion. However, the power of multiple Ancestral Symbols is not easily controlled, and the backlash ultimately consumed him. Before his demise, he established this cave mansion and sealed away many secrets, treasures, and dangers, entrusting me to guard them."
Lin Langtian glanced around, sensing the profound mysteries still hidden deep within the cave mansion.
"Elder Yan, now that you are free, what's your next step?" Lin Langtian asked with genuine concern.
Yan Xuan smiled faintly, a hint of peace finally in his eyes. "My time has already ended. I lingered only because of the demonic corruption binding me to this world. Now, thanks to you, I can finally find rest."
Lin Langtian felt a pang of sadness but nodded respectfully, understanding the elder's desire for peace after centuries of torment.
"However, before departing," Yan Xuan continued softly, "allow me to give you something useful. It's a token left by my master, which will grant you easier access deeper into the mansion. There, you will find powerful treasures—hopefully, they will aid you in your journey."
With trembling hands, Yan Xuan produced an ancient, jade-like token engraved with intricate patterns and handed it solemnly to Lin Langtian.
Accepting it gratefully, Lin Langtian respectfully bowed once more. "Thank you, Elder Yan. I'll make sure your master's legacy is put to good use."
Yan Xuan smiled warmly, his figure slowly becoming more transparent, fading gently into nothingness. "Young friend, the world is vast, and the Ancestral Symbols you've acquired possess unimaginable power. Use them wisely. And beware—the Yimo threat remains ever-present. Only unity and true strength can repel their evil."
His voice gradually grew softer, vanishing along with his form, leaving behind only a sense of peace and gratitude lingering in the air.
Lin Langtian stood quietly, reflecting deeply on Yan Xuan's words. After a moment, he composed himself, stepping out of the barrier.
Mu Lingshan rushed forward immediately, her face filled with relief. "Brother Langtian, you're safe!"
Lin Langtian smiled warmly, gently patting her head. "I'm fine, Lingshan. Elder Yan has been freed."
"What about that terrifying demon corpse?" Liu Da asked anxiously, glancing cautiously around.
"It's over," Lin Langtian replied calmly. "Elder Yan was freed from the demonic corruption, and now he's finally at peace."
Liu Da and the others visibly relaxed, sighing in relief.
"But this isn't over yet," Lin Langtian continued thoughtfully. "We still need to delve deeper into the Reincarnation Cave Mansion. Elder Yan left me a token that should help us navigate the dangers ahead."
The group nodded firmly, their eyes determined and eager.
"In that case, let's continue," Liu Da declared confidently. "We've overcome one of the mansion's greatest threats. Whatever challenges await us, we'll face them together."
Lin Langtian nodded resolutely, turning to gaze deeper into the mysterious depths of the Reincarnation Cave Mansion. His mind was calm, but determination burned fiercely in his eyes.
"Let's move forward," he announced firmly, leading the way once again into the unknown.
Together, the group surged onward, determined to unveil the deeper mysteries hidden within—and face whatever challenges lay ahead.
