Hearing N'bayé, Kael's eyes settled on the face of the little creature inside the baby pod.
Lying on its back was a small baby monkey with a tiny head and a compact body. Its eyes looked around with curiosity as it kept its limbs to itself.
Its fur, which was still sparse and thin, was a soft, dark grey, and it would probably darken with time.
There was no blanket to cover it, no toys to entertain it. The world on its own was more fascinating to it than any toy could ever be.
When Kael leaned forward to look into the baby pod, the eyes of the baby monkey shifted.
It noticed Kael, the blue eyes stared into the golden ones above it and for a few seconds, the baby monkey was frozen.
With its mind still fragile and new, it had this sudden feeling that Kael was the most mysterious thing in the world. It didn't know what a world was, nor did it understand the concept of being mysterious, not yet at least.
But it knew instinctively that Kael was just…not normal.
