"...this is a step forward for humanity, we'll get stronger, and we'll fight back!..." the association president booms, his voice magnified by half a dozen floating mana drones. Each one captures every micro-expression for the live feed across the fortress.
I stifle a yawn behind a polite smile, the kind bred into you when you've attended far too many events that drag on for far too long.
Twenty. Whole. Minutes.
Twenty minutes of thanking the "brave initial team," bla bla bla, reciting "the mistakes of humanity's past," bla bla bla, and waxing poetic about "our glorious future" in "contractual cooperation with the spirit world elementals," double bla.
A drone floats a little too close to my face, and I wonder how much trouble I'd get into if I iced it mid-air. Probably a fine. Maybe a scandal. Tempting.
"...and maybe one day, we'll leave this fortress and take back our lands!!!!" he shouts, fist raised in triumph.
