Chapter 81 – Evan POV
From the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse—Daelan Crowe and Choi Jihun, sitting.
Hidden in a sliver of shadow, tucked against the web-coated wall like they've got all the time in the world.
I clench my sword tighter, knuckles whitening under the strain.
No time to waste glaring.
Another spider—big, bloated, frothing green at the fangs—lunges at me from the right. I spin, blade flashing. The steel slices through its leg, sending it crashing down in a tangle of limbs. I finish it with a downward thrust to the head, ichor spraying up onto my sleeves.
The smell hits instantly—burnt hair, rotting meat, iron.
I gag, but I move.
Always move.
The ground shakes underfoot as somewhere in the distance another wall collapses, sending an avalanche of broken web and rubble raining down. The entire cave feels like it's groaning—like it's alive and angry.
