The car was wrapped in silence. Raelynn sat stiffly in the passenger seat, her fingers clasped tightly together on her lap. Her heart pounded inside her chest, echoing loudly in her own ears.
She glanced at Elion from the corner of her eyes, biting the inside of her cheek. His sharp jaw was clenched, a muscle twitching underneath his pale skin. Both of his hands gripped the steering wheel, knuckles faintly white from the pressure. His eyes stayed fixed on the road ahead.
Raelynn swallowed hard, shifting slightly in her seat. The memory of what happened at the hospital still played vividly in her mind—how Axel and Elion glared at each other like two predators ready to tear each other apart. She could still feel the tension crackling in the air, so suffocating that she thought something bad would happen if Reinhart hadn't intervened. The way Elion had wordlessly grabbed her hand and led her out of the hospital only made her heart pound faster.
He hadn't said a word since then.
