[Did you hear? There was a gang shootout in Ueno yesterday!]
[For real? Gang shootouts in 21st-century Japan?]
[Yeah, aren't gangs all into real estate or bubble tea shops now?]
[It's real. There's video evidence.]
[Uploaded to avi.]
[Whoa! This looks like an American movie!]
[Feels like a U.S. gang flick. AK-47s and grenade launchers? Seriously? AKs are one thing, but grenade launchers?]
[That stuff shouldn't be in gang hands, especially not Japanese gangs. Even the police don't have that gear.]
[Forget it. Japanese cops can't even catch petty thieves, they're too busy nabbing creeps harassing schoolkids.]
[Right. Expecting cops to handle gangs is like expecting politicians to tell the truth.]
A street gunfight video sparked heated debate on Japanese social media, rocketing to trending status.
The police, scrambling to downplay it, claimed they were investigating, while yakuza groups with police ties were baffled.
No one knew which gang was behind it. A shootout in downtown Tokyo? That was American-level chaos, not Japan. Yet the culprits, all Japanese, left everyone stumped.
The video captured the firefight triggered by Aogiri Tree's new weapons. The street clash ended with Aogiri losing two ghouls, turned human by suppressant rounds and killed, while wiping out eight rival ghouls.
Six of the eight became human; five were gunned down afterward, their bodies left behind. The remaining three fled with stolen weapons.
Aogiri's new arsenal was overwhelming. Three ghouls had overpowered eight with sheer firepower.
The sole surviving Aogiri ghoul wanted to finish the job but, being in central Tokyo, fled in the damaged van, its windshield shattered but engine intact, back to their base.
Empowered by their new weapons, Aogiri launched a vengeance campaign. Gecko, a fiery lieutenant, was furious.
His men had been ambushed, suggesting a traitor in Aogiri's ranks. With its mix of recruits, many coerced into joining after beatdowns, the organization was a sieve.
Eto, however, kept her true goal of turning all ghouls human secret, shared only with trusted allies. Most members saw Aogiri as just an ambitious gang.
Unable to pinpoint the traitor, Gecko targeted rival factions. Leading Aogiri's cannon fodder, he unleashed their new arsenal on Tokyo's other ghoul groups.
The escaped rivals, having nabbed some weapons, fought back.
Ghouls, with their strength, could easily haul crates and escape. No one could stop the escalating chaos.
Tokyo's nights echoed with gunfire. Residents woke to shots, but police were powerless against ghouls wielding heavy weapons.
The Self-Defense Force could intervene, but they didn't handle gang fights. The once-quiet nights, calmed by fewer ghoul attacks, grew chaotic again, though now, only ghouls were caught in the crossfire.
Each night brought shootouts, followed by police arriving thirty minutes later to clean up and collect bodies.
Tokyo felt like it had reverted to a gang-ruled era, but actual yakuza groups cowered, too scared to challenge foes with grenade launchers and AKs.
Decades ago, gangs fought with knives or bats, now this was overkill.
The CCG was called in when masked bodies were found, assuming ghouls.
But checks revealed no kagune or kakugan, just humans mimicking ghoul masks. Not ghouls, not their problem. The police were left to deal with the mess.
Aogiri crushed many rival groups but took heavy losses. Despite superior firepower, their casualty rate exceeded their enemies', frustrating Gecko.
He pressed Eto for more weapons to dominate further. Eto, seeing it as a waste of funds, she couldn't print money, hesitated.
But to keep Gecko from suspecting her true plans, she agreed.
Strengthening Aogiri's forces wasn't just about more weapons; it could come from another angle.
Thus, Aogiri's base welcomed two guests: Altair and Amon, dressed in black suits, white shirts, black shoes, and sunglasses, hired as combat instructors to elevate Aogiri's fighting skills.
