The mastermind of this Holy Grail War was Amakusa Shirou, a survivor of the previous war. His goal: to materialize the souls of all humanity, granting eternal life and, in his view, freeing mankind from suffering, a grand salvation for all.
Such a plan was unacceptable, and thus Jeanne d'Arc appeared.
As Ruler, Jeanne received divine revelations pointing to Amakusa. To uncover the root of this war's anomalies, she pursued him relentlessly, always one step behind, chasing leads across the world.
Now, following the Hanging Gardens floating above, she arrived at the battlefield of Tulifas.
There, she spotted a stranger, a golden-haired warrior fighting in the Grail War. As a Servant, Jeanne sensed the immense power within him, yet he was no participant in this conflict.
Suspicion gripped her: could this man be tied to the war's irregularities?
Jeanne hurried toward his location, only to find Sieg's lifeless body sprawled on the ground.
Why was he here? Hadn't she left him safe in a farmer's home? How did this happen?
Stunned, Jeanne froze. Having spent little time with Sieg, she hadn't developed deep feelings, certainly no confessions of love. Still, seeing someone she'd vowed to protect dead on the battlefield, killed by this stranger, sparked her fury.
In her anger, Jeanne branded Altair, an outsider to the Grail War, as the source of its chaos, the very reason for her summoning.
"You are the anomaly of this Holy Grail War!" She declared, leveling her flag-spear at Altair, her face alight with righteous wrath.
"Oh, come on, seriously?" Altair groaned, rubbing his forehead. He hadn't expected Jeanne to pin the blame on him. Wasn't she supposed to hunt Amakusa? Why was she after him?
"Ruler, are you sure I'm the source of this war's anomaly?" Altair asked, attempting to steer her with words.
"Give it up! I won't be swayed by your lies, I won't even listen to them!" Jeanne snapped.
Great, she was beyond reasoning, completely deaf to dialogue.
Altair sighed, smacking his forehead. "Sieg, even in death, you're causing me trouble."
He'd planned to stay hidden, biding his time to assassinate Karna and claim the Greater Grail alone. Its vast mana could grant Kairi a wish, with plenty left for Altair's own use.
But now, exposure seemed inevitable.
"Tch, what a hassle. You're forcing me to turn traitor." Altair muttered.
He couldn't let Amakusa seize the Grail first. If Amakusa made his wish, the Grail's mana would be drained, leaving Altair with scraps.
"If I'm exposed now, today has to be the final battle. No way I'm letting anyone else grab the Grail first."
