A few students sat stiffly, lips pressed thin, hiding disappointment. Others looked just relieved to have survived.
Once the final name was called, Samantha clasped her hands behind her back and gave the room a long, thoughtful glance.
"Now," she began, her voice taking on a sharper edge, "before any of you start celebrating or sulking, let me be clear—"
She stepped forward, posture poised, eyes steady.
"This simulation was just that. A simulation."
"Tomorrow, you'll face the real test."
That got their attention.
The mood in the room shifted. Students straightened. The low hum of idle chatter died down.
"Out there," she continued, "it won't be data projections and safe environments. You'll be up against creatures that don't play by the rules, traps that weren't designed for fairness, and people who would kill without hesitation."
Her gaze swept the room again, voice firm and unwavering.
"Some of you relied too much on brute force."
"Some froze under pressure."
