Chapter 778: The Inheritance of the Primordial Ape
"The Heaven-Shaking Divine Arm!"
As everyone's gaze fell upon Mo Yu's arm, gleaming with violet-gold brilliance and radiating destructive might, gasps of shock filled the air.
The Heaven-Shaking Divine Arm — a divine art of the Skyshaking Ape Clan — was a power far surpassing the regular Skyshaking Arm. None had expected to witness its true form today.
Sun He and Sun Ba stared at Mo Yu, eyes wide with disbelief. They could hardly accept that this long-lost technique of their clan now appeared in the hands of an outsider.
"You… How do you have the Heaven-Shaking Divine Arm?" Sun He asked, his voice trembling, face pale.
"I, of course, cultivated it myself. Why? Is that not allowed?" Mo Yu replied flatly.
"What nonsense! You're not even one of our Skyshaking Ape Clan — how could you possibly…" Sun He's words trailed off. Realization struck him all at once. His expression twisted, and he shouted coldly, "You… You fused our clan's bloodline? Damn you! That is a grave taboo against our people!"
"So what? I'll give you one more chance. Leave, or die." Mo Yu's eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing within.
For any beast race, fusing one of their clan's bloodlines without permission was indeed a serious taboo. But what of it? With the Thunder Prison behind him, the Skyshaking Ape Clan's wrath meant little to Mo Yu.
Sun He's face turned a deep shade of gray as fury battled hesitation. Just as he was about to summon more allies to strike, a booming laugh echoed from afar.
"Haha! I leave you all for a moment and already there's chaos!"
The crowd parted as Han Yue and the Ximo Clan's powerhouses strode forward, murderous aura blazing.
Han Yue's sharp gaze swept across the tense scene, understanding everything in an instant. With a half-sigh and a hint of exasperation, he walked to Mo Yu's side. "You really know how to stir up trouble…"
Despite the scolding tone, Han Yue made no move to retreat. Instead, he took his place firmly beside Mo Yu, making their stance unmistakably clear.
"That's the Ximo Clan… and that must be Han Yue! I've heard of him — a top prodigy of his clan, one of the strongest among seven-rank Supremes."
"Guess the Ximo Clan's gotten close with the Swallowing Python Clan."
Amid whispered discussions, Mo Yu merely shook his head. He hadn't gone looking for trouble — they were the ones who'd come to him.
Still, he felt some warmth toward Han Yue. Despite knowing that Sun He was a half-step eighth-rank powerhouse, Han Yue hadn't backed away. That kind of man, Mo Yu thought, was worth befriending.
Sun He's expression turned darker than ever. Behind him, the other Skyshaking Apes frowned deeply. With the Ximo Clan joining Mo Yu's side, the opposing forces were now evenly matched.
Cold rage flickered in Sun He's eyes. After a long breath, he finally restrained his fury and said icily, "This won't end here. To fuse the blood of my clan is an unforgivable crime. You will be punished."
With that, he turned away sharply. His departure carried a suffocating wave of anger.
The other Skyshaking Apes, though clearly unwilling, had no choice but to follow him, throwing Mo Yu and his companions one last venomous glare before disappearing into the crowd.
The onlookers sighed regretfully. Many had hoped to see a bloody battle; alas, it ended before blades were drawn.
After the confrontation ended, Mo Yu thanked Han Yue, and they resumed exploring the free trade point.
However, few things could catch Mo Yu's discerning eye — except one: a slender crimson armor set hanging near a stall.
The armor bore intricate ancient runes and mysterious inscriptions, emanating faint yet complex energy fluctuations.
Its elegant design and slender frame clearly indicated it was crafted for a woman.
Mo Yu immediately paid two hundred and fifty thousand Supreme Spirit Liquid for it, stunning Han Yue, Mang Lie, and the others.
He channeled his spiritual power into the armor. Instantly, rippling energy waves formed layered protective barriers over it.
Boom!
Mo Yu clenched his fist and punched the armor. Each layer of the shield collapsed under the strike, yet the armor itself merely shuddered — a faint dent appearing before quickly restoring itself.
"What incredible defense," he murmured.
That one punch, which could easily make a seven-rank Supreme cough blood, had barely scratched it.
"A fine treasure indeed. It even boosts spiritual energy."
Such a combination of defense and augmentation rivaled top-tier divine artifacts. In any other place but the Divine Beast Plains, it would have fetched an astronomical price.
Han Yue's eyes gleamed with admiration.
Mo Yu smiled, flicking his finger lightly. The armor drifted through the air toward Cai Lin. "It suits you better," he said.
Cai Lin blinked in mild surprise, then smiled and accepted it without protest. Their relationship had long since surpassed formality.
She stretched out her jade-like hand, spiritual energy blooming from her lips. Within moments, she refined the armor and absorbed it into her body.
"The materials we need are nearly all gathered," Han Yue said. "The Tomb of Ten Thousand Beasts is still two days away. The night is setting in — we should rest here and move out at dawn."
Mo Yu agreed. Truthfully, he'd been wanting a quiet place to study the mysterious gray bone fragment. The trade point, despite the crowd, was safer than the wilderness.
Han Yue led them to a quieter corner lined with old stone towers — temporary resting places for passing powers.
They occupied an empty one. The group settled into meditation, while Mo Yu secluded himself in a corner, cross-legged with the gray bone fragment in hand.
For half an hour, he stared at it, frowning as he examined each faint crack and pattern.
"Sigh…"
He rubbed his tired eyes, frustration etched across his face. Despite every attempt — probing with energy, flame, and spirit sense — the bone remained lifeless.
It was hard as jade, but utterly inert. Whatever treasure he had hoped for seemed not to exist.
"No… something's off," Mo Yu muttered.
The first moment he saw it, the phantom of the Skyshaking Ape inside him had stirred. That must mean something.
He raised the fragment closer, examining the faint, worn patterns on its surface — ancient, chaotic, half-eroded by time.
"What kind of beast did you come from?" he murmured.
Still finding nothing, he sighed and was about to store it away when an idea struck him.
If the Heaven-Shaking Ape phantom had reacted to it, perhaps their bloodlines were connected.
Without hesitation, Mo Yu cut his thumb, pressing a droplet of his blood onto the bone.
Since his blood now carried the Skyshaking Ape's essence, it might trigger something within.
To his mild disappointment, the blood vanished into the bone's surface without a ripple.
"No reaction… Failed again," he whispered, helplessly shaking his head.
But just as he prepared to put it away—
Buzz!
Brilliant violet-gold streams of light burst from the fragment, weaving together in midair.
Mo Yu's lost expression vanished instantly, replaced by stunned amazement.
The light display drew Cai Lin, Han Yue, and the others over. Seeing the once "worthless" bone erupt with such radiance, their eyes widened in excitement.
Such an occurrence clearly hid a tremendous secret.
As they gathered close, Mo Yu's confusion deepened — his experiment had been right after all.
"But… what is this?"
The radiant lines twisted and joined, forming what looked like a complex pattern — no, a map.
"This seems like… a map?" Cai Lin murmured softly.
Mo Yu's eyes narrowed in concentration. A thought flickered across his mind, and he memorized the glowing pattern, imprinting it onto his palm as a map-shaped mark.
As soon as he finished, the light condensed, coalescing into a small violet-gold token the size of half a palm.
He caught it carefully. On its smooth surface, a majestic ancient ape was engraved — an existence exuding primal, timeless might. Above it were four ancient characters:
"Primordial Ape of the Great Desolation."
Mo Yu's eyes brightened at once.
"So this fragment held a map to the inheritance of the Primordial Ape…"
He grinned quietly. Whatever this inheritance was, its name alone spoke of ancient power older than memory.
Even if he hadn't discovered a divine artifact, this discovery was more than enough compensation — perhaps even more valuable than a sacred relic.
A profitable find indeed.
Han Yue's face suddenly changed as he gasped, "The Primordial Ape of the Great Desolation?! Impossible!"
Mo Yu turned to him. "You know of it?"
Han Yue nodded gravely. "Legend says the Primordial Ape was among the first divine beasts born on this continent — the progenitor of all ape-kind, formed from the purest essence of the great world itself. A being rivaling the Dragon and Phoenix clans in might.
When the extraterritorial demons invaded, their clan fought at the forefront and suffered catastrophic losses. Since then, their bloodline vanished. Many believed their lineage long extinct.
If your fragment contains their inheritance map… that may be one of the last traces of them in existence."
Mo Yu felt his pulse quicken. Fusing the Skyshaking Ape's bloodline, and now this — the inheritance of their ultimate ancestor?
Could this truly be fate?
His eyes gleamed with resolve.
The inheritance of the Primordial Ape — it would be his!
