Chapter 28 - CHAPTER 27 - DARK (K)NIGHT

Flashes of images went through his head, a broken flat bottom flask laid on the ground with pieces of its glass around, a gooey black liquid oozed out and trailed behind a dark red blob of flesh that crept on the ground towards him.

"Let's show them" the voice spoke. Kaina's eyes widened in shock. "No." he spoke back to the voice, resisting; dragging his body away.

"Heh!" the voice scoffed. "You think you can back out now? What a joke!" His vision slowly began to grow dark and his rustled breaths filled the air in anxiousness and dismay. He could feel something invade his being, something sinister. And he blacked out. The ground beneath him began to quake and seconds after, a large pulse of energy shot from him and caused a great disturbance in the air, much like a torrent of a gust of wind and flung everything around away, flower pots cracked, the grass fell flat to the sudden gust of wind. Then without warning, the disturbance died down.

The door to the entrance of the party laid in view of the long corridor. He could hear his friends chattering and murmuring amidst his slowly approaching footstep. It was then, it dawned on him, he could see his body move; behold the things he had passed by but his own body was not listening to him. He willed himself to turn around, to stop, anguishly saying to himself in his conscience, but he had no control over his bodily movements. And slowly, he came and was met by a handful of students. Then, a wave of emotions came over him, one he knew couldn't have been his; the urge to kill. Before he could think, his hand went flying through the air, and five of his mates went flying through the air. And he willed himself. In aversion to the emotion and felt his body come to a stop.

"No. Please, don't hurt my friends."

"No. No. No. That won't do buddy. You wanted to show them right? Look, there they all are. Come on, I can do more than just 5 people!pfft" the voice scoffed.

"Go away!" kaina screamed from inside.

"You think you're going to get rid of me that easy? You belong to me. Or did you think anything good was going to come from you? You who did nothing but harm people? HAHAHHAHAHAHA!" then the voice stopped and turned its attention to the sound of the footsteps that was approaching.

"Ohh here comes one. This…" the voice softly commented. "You seem to have attachment to this one. "Isn't this just perfect. We should show him too."

"Yousef!" Kaina lifted his eyes from within himself and he could see Yousef talking to him and raise his hand towards him. "No!" he screamed in agony.

"Don't worry, I'm just going to give him a taste of what we can really do. Hahahaha! Stay here, and just enjoy the scene, fire prince."  A sudden pillar of fire burst from Kaina and shot directly upwards, tearing its way through the cemented ceiling and into the sky.

Yousef was sent flying over the heads of the people that stood behind him and quickly, Kiriku, guarding the rest of the students with Ingrid jumped up from the air and caught him before he was sent flying outside.

"Yousef!" the blue peacocks and everyone present at the front exclaimed. Eyes widened in shock and disbelief.

"Kaina!" Evy barked out. Khay and Amine and Trilith joined her at the front.

"This is going to be a bit troublesome than usually is Evy." Amine said.

"Yeah." Trilith and Khay followed. "We are kind of defenseless aren't we? Look at him, he's got fire and we don't have any protective clothing, this is just cotton." He gestured at his attire.

"We could go… Man-o A-Man-o." Trilith suggested.

"We have no choice. I'm sure Kaina can put up with it."

"All the more reason we should." Lilith entered the conversation.

"Lilith, how's the headache?" Khay asked.

"I'm hanging on."

"Wait…" Lilith signaled. "The way Kaina looks right now. NO WAY!"

"What, what is it?" Amine inquired on behalf of everyone present and curious.

"There's no way he could have... but that only explains the way he is now. I've only read it in books and it rarely happens. But look at Kaina." She drew their attention to the seemingly lifeless boy. "His face. There's not much evidence but his face. The veins on his face. I read that it's a sign of a takeover with a parasite."

"If that is the case then that would explain what I heard. Just before he flung away that prince Yousef, I thought it was strange but I heard him say 'No.'

"He's still in there somewhere!" Mira softly let out. "Alright. I think a good slugging would bring his senses back to us, wherever he is."

"Well…" Trilith cried. "That sounds good and all but there might be a little problem."

Khay looked over to Trilith and gave him a blank stare. Trilith chuckled nervously in response. "The intention is not to put him in a coma Tril." Khay said then he paused. "Don't tell me… You took of the heavy turtle."

"I sort of did. I'm wearing it like a sleeveless now you know. No arms and feet. I was wrong to think I could take a time out."

"Try and pull your punches then." Khay sighed as they assumed their attack stances.

"Guys…" Evy alerted.

"Honcho." Kai cried out.

And they all turned their attention to him. His head was again lifted up, and this time, tears started trailing down his eyes. His purple suit had been rendered non-existent a few moments ago by the fire and he stood bare chested. Crying, and before anyone could say anything, the tears dried up and the temperature in the room began to rise.

"If we're going to stop him, now is the time. Standing around and just watching won't do any us any good. Hodgard." Yegan called.

"Yeah! Sorry boss. This might hurt a little."" He responded. And he went whooshing past and to Kaina and tackled him out of the hall and through the wall to three rooms away.

"We don't know what's going on…" Yegan said to the others. "But…" his gaze fell on Khay and Amine. "We'll do what we can. Kai, ready to back up Hodgard. Ohga… Back up Kiriku and Ingrid."

"Wait. You guys are gonna get burnt" Evy commented.

"I know what we said, what you said." He looked at the group. "But something just doesn't sit right with me on this, to have you bear the responsible of Kaina's… whatever this is. But I can't just let this go. After all, it goes without saying that we know his abilities best." He took off his suit and began tightening the cufflinks on his shirt.

"Pick up from where we fail, please? Allow us this retribution." He looked at Khay and the others.

The weight of the situation pressed on his conscience and squeezed a sigh out of him. "Alright."

Meanwhile, behind them… "Yousef! Are you good?" Kiriku called out.

"Hands off me." He shrugged himself away from Kiriku and got on his feet and put a considerable distance between them and himself.

"Relax, I was just checking if you were okay." Kiriku was met with a riddling silence amidst the company of Ingrid and the rest of the students and suddenly; the pain shot through his fingertips and palm like the sting from the flick of a whip to his heart and in groaning pains, Yousef grabbed unto that dear hand and grunted the pain in himself. His pride couldn't allow them see him this way, in pain, weakened.

Kiriku observed him as he struggled, then to the students behind. Kaina had never been a pillar of comfort or peace to any of them and now that it had come to this, they had much fear and uncertainties in their hearts. They couldn't stay in the hot zone.

"I thought all the doors were locked, how did you get here?" he gestured with his head in the direction of the door Yousef came through.

"I…." sweat dripped down his face while he struggled with his pain. Then, he took a deep breath, "I went… for…" he said, groaning. "A walk… a look around." Then, he took a long deep breath "There was a secret passage I found by accident and it led me here. It should lead us out."

"I see. Thanks. Let's hope it stayed opened after you used it."

"Ingrid." He turned to her. Having heard the conversation, she was quick to organize the students as part of her role as assistant student council president and led them through.
