Chapter 1 - The Act of Freedom through Defiance

"Councilors of the Terran Trifecta Union,

That being said..."

Prescott looked up from the monitor of his terminal. His orange-dull eyes were exhausted. However, this wasn't an exhaustion due to sitting behind the captain's desk within his quarters. This tiredness came from being forced into a corner. The Terran Trifecta wasn't keen to keep him in a leader role of their colony, especially with the rising tensions between his home, Luna (Earth's moon), Mars, the Asteroid belt colonies, and Earth (now calling itself Terra). Prescott got up from his desk, and the automated doors to his quarters slid open. Entered the bridge of the Spirit of Freedom, he took his. As he looked to his controls, the crew joined him in getting the Eldridge-Class-Battleship ready for what could be their last mission together.

"Cresscott, plot a long jump course to the Sol System... We're going home." Prescott said his helmsman, Cresscott Jones, plotted the necessary route. Just before they were ready for launch, Prescott sent his reply to the Union's council, but once that was done, the ship punched a hole through space. However, as they approached Terran space, the bridge lights shifted from amber to red. None of the crew dared move or speak without permission, after all, they'd just dropped one of the most powerful starships in the galaxy in the direct center between Terra and Luna's orbits.

"Cresscott! TO LUNA!" Yelled Prescott. Cresscott adjusted the ship's course Terran defense ship began to open fire on the aging battleship. However, weapon's expert of the Spirit of Freedom, Jesscott, the first non-human to hold the seat, returned their declaration of intent, with every gun the battleship had to offer. As the Spirit of Freedom approached Luna, the defense ships seemed to break away from the battleship, for a Francis-Class-Dreadnought to decloak and open fire.

Alarms and on-screen waring alarms screamed under the red-alert light of the bridge. "CAPTAIN! Shields can't take these punches! Not without repairs!" Yelled out Arscott. As the head of engineering, her opinion was practically law. Prescott transferred ship controls to his chair, and raised the ships ramming shields. Before engaging the Dreadnought, Prescott gave a single command. "Attention all crew... brace for impact!" The Spirit of Freedom closed the gap between them, then rammed the Dreadnought. Onboard computers scrambled and lights along with their breakers exploded in massive sparking discharges. Jesscott emptied her close-combat-guns into the Dreadnought's shields as the massive ship was shoved aside.

As the Spirit of Freedom pushed forward, Lunarian strike fighters fired torpedoes at the Battleship. Prescott's maneuvers were good, but the Lunarian torpedoes were better. They slammed into the FTL Nacelles towering behind the main saucer of the Spirit of Freedom. However, most of these pilots and Captains were green in comparison to Prescott J. Philip. In a display of the differences between their gap in skill, Prescott pushed the Spirit of Freedom into a forward-turning corkscrew while Jesscott unloaded the "big guns", Critonium-Arc-Cannons, into the attacking ships. As the outdated battleship corkscrewed over Luna, a small ship rocketed towards them, docking clamps open.

"Now, Captain?" Asked Dresscott, the Spirit of Freedom's expert snap 'n' capture officer. "NOT YET!" Yelled Prescott. He quickly looked to Cresscott, "Get ready on that FTL Jump!" With a nod from Cresscott, Prescott matched his turn to that of the small ship, yell out, "NOW DRESSCOTT!", and with the slamming of the two ships' docking locks interlocked, the Spirit of Freedom jumped to Faster-Than-Light. However... this high risk operation, had cost the Spirit of Freedom dearly.
