"Oh," Lian Ying sat down, curious, "if it's not good news, what is it?"
"Remember Lingling from next door?"
"I remember." Lian Ying nodded. She had a very deep impression of this neighbor girl, one year her junior—certainly not a favorable one.
Their neighbors were a couple with special circumstances, dubbed special because one was lame and the other was mute. As for their child Lingling, being sound and whole, her parents doted on her to the bone.
Unfortunately, Lingling was not a likable child. Even though her parents were honest and simple folks, she had been spoiled into a gluttonous, playful child, full of lies, with hands that were not quite clean.
Lian Ying got along well with the other kids in the village, but Lingling was the exception. As the biggest victim of Lingling's constant lying and sneaky thieving, Lian Ying really couldn't bring herself to like her.
"Today, there was someone coming to see Lingling for a potential match."
