An example of a familiar is the Phoenix currently owned by Freya. I've also heard that each of the hero families in Braveheart has their own familiars. For instance, Winterfall has a legendary stag, Flamemore has both a phoenix and the fire dragon Ignis, Stormheim commands a lightning tiger, Starlight has a kind of celestial horse, and the Braveheart Royal Family possesses a winged lion—the kingdom's very symbol.
The strange thing is that my own family, the Blackmore hero family, not only lacks a Dark Magic user but also doesn't have any familiar or legendary beast like the others. Because of this, we're considered the weakest among the hero families.
