The words dropped like a bombshell in the packed courtroom.
A loud murmur erupted almost instantly. Gasps, whispers, disbelieving shakes of the head, the kind of reaction that rippled through people when the truth finally slipped out, raw and undeniable. A few journalists already seated at the back began scribbling faster. The judge immediately banged the gavel hard against the wooden block.
"Order! This is a court of law, not a marketplace. I will not tolerate noise" the judge said, voice sharp and authoritative.
Sophia's entire body trembled. Her legs, her arms, even her lips twitched like they were struggling to stay still. Her fingers curled tightly around Ethan's hand, palm damp and cold from the sweat pooling in her clenched fist. She didn't even realize how tightly she had grabbed him until he tried to gently pull his hand away, only for her to squeeze harder, like a drowning person grabbing the edge of a lifeboat.
