Chapter 27 - chapter 27

"This is for you, Violet," I looked up from the folder and files I'd been sorting almost all day. Maya had been acting like a bitch all day, compiling and stressing me out with meaningless tasks. But then, I refused to make a bad impression on my first day. I'd rather bear her nonchalant attitude than make everyone think I was the complaining-whining type.

Thankfully, I've got Xavier who has been more than helpful. He was sent by the moon goddess, if you ask me.

Hans stood in front of me with a shopping bag. He placed it on my table.

"What? I didn't order anything," I said, confused. There was no way those bags could be mine. Maybe it was a wrong delivery.

Hans chuckled. This was the first time he was being nice to me, and smiling? "That's a gift from the Alpha," he leaned close, whispering in my ear.

"What? Mas—" he shushed me before I could finish.

"You can thank him later," he whispered again, then straightened his suit as he walked to the door and winked at me.

I frowned. "Now, that's weird," Aria commented.

"So weird," I replied, wondering why Hans, of all people, suddenly changed from his cold demeanor.

"Even his Beta? Is that whorish enough for you?" Maya stood up and walked to my desk.

I glanced up at her. I could fix her right on the spot, but I'd rather stay silent than say a word.

"I owe you no explanation, Maya. And for the future, my first impression doesn't last. So, be careful with what you say to me," I warned her as I headed to Mason's office, at least to say thanks.

"You're so lucky, everyone is just fond of you," Xavier cooed behind me.

I turned and chuckled, waving it aside lightly.

Mason was sitting rooted in the chair I'd met him in earlier. He was looking so quiet and charming until he raised his eyes and flashed me a look.

"Violet?" His lips curled into a smile as he looked up at me. Was it just me, or was he suddenly acting weird? I knew he was nice, but smiling at me like that? Something was off about these two guys.

I glanced at Hans, who was already heading to the door, but I was fast enough to see them exchange a look.

"The clothes," I said, dragging Mason's attention away from Hans.

"The clothes?" He repeated, trying to avoid my gaze now.

"Yes, Hans told me you ordered clothes for me. You shouldn't have bothered because—" I was cut off.

"Yeah, you're a worker of this company now, so it's no big deal. We do it for all our workers," he rushed his statement.

I tilted my head. "Thank you." Maya had been so jealous about the clothes earlier, and Xavier had complimented how lucky I was. I could detect a lie when I heard one. But it is what it is.

One minute, I was about to walk out of his office, the next, the door opened. Long legs in a pair of red heels closed the door behind her as she walked inside.

Rhoda? My heart leaped, knowing she was going to act like a bitch.

"Hi, Violet. Good to see you here. Never knew you started working here," her eyes were killing enough to tell me she was fooling around.

"I just started today," I returned her stare. To her, it seemed like I was in a competition with her, but damn it, I wasn't. I didn't want Mason and never wished to. I just wanted to get my ass away from this Pack.

Long, hazy eyes stared into mine; this was a perfect description of if looks could kill.

The sound of Mason's phone jolted me as I turned to him.

He grumbled something into the phone, then looked up. "Ladies, I'll be back. I need to take this call," excusing himself, Mason walked outside, leaving us alone. With the demon.

"Violet, Violet, Violet," the bitch dragged my name, her heels clicking as she circled me.

I'm not scared of her, even though I could sense her fury. She was nowhere close to me. I'd size her up and have her on the ground in two seconds.

"What do you want?"

She chuckled. "What do I want?" Her eyes met mine for a fleeting second, then she walked closer to me.

We were just an inch away. I could sense what she was feeling from her heartbeat: insecurity, doubt, and fear. Rhoda was scared of me? That's funny. Kudos to the last fight we had.

"This is the last time I'll warn you. Stay away from Mason!" Her eyes changed, her teeth. I backed away immediately. She was close to shifting to her wolf form.

"Come off it, Rhoda. If Mason was the only man on earth, I wouldn't look at him twice. I'm just here for work and nothing else."

"Drop the act, bitch! We both know why you're here. I'll give you one option: leave."

I chuckled. Was she being serious now? This was an opportunity for me to achieve my desired goal, and I'm not going to let anyone ruin it, least of all her.

"Like I said earlier, Rhoda, I'm here for work and nothing more. My time is counting, and if you'll excuse me, I've got work to do," I walked to the door and was about to open it when I heard her speak.

"You want to play with fire, don't you? Watch your back, because you're going to get burned!" The threat in her voice was clear, but I didn't care.

RHODA

Whoever Violet thinks she is infuriates me. The nerve of her walking out on me like I'm some sort of tramp. Everyone in the pack respects me. She should too. Damn her!

My phone rang as I stepped out of the company and was about to head to my car. Staring at the caller, it was Nicole.

I looked around to be sure no one was there, and then with a sigh, I picked up.

"What's the news, Nicole?" I asked immediately, knowing she'd be calling for one reason.

"I checked all the nearby packs, just as you instructed, but no one was declared missing... But what caught my interest was that the Luna of Silvermoon pack is dead."

"And what does that have to do with this?" I queried. I needed facts, not stories.

"I just checked the pack's website. Violet. She's the Luna," Nicole confirmed. "Same name, no difference. Isn't that crazy?"

I chuckled, shaking my head in disbelief. "This has to be a joke. Violet… she's a loser. There's no way she could be Luna."
