The Witch's voice turned hysterical, her words dripping with a manic, bone-deep resentment.
"But the commander was strong enough! He grievously wounded the Archbishops and drove back the god's will! He survived!"
"And I was branded a traitor, and cast forever into the lightless abyss!"
"That is who I am! The Witch, the traitor of the Champions Alliance!"
Perhaps the darkness was receding, or perhaps Orion's senses were simply adjusting, but he could gradually begin to make out his surroundings. And yet, it felt as though he could see nothing at all.
A figure in the shape of a Fallen Angel stepped out of the shadows. The Witch drew near, looking down at the Deathly Soul-Reaper, whose eyes were closed, its expression strangely serene.
"So, in the darkness, do you know who you are?" she asked again, studying Orion with an intense, invasive scrutiny, as if trying to see into his every pore.
