Chapter 17 - The Heavens Chooses Sides

The light that filled the celestial realm no longer felt calm.

It still shone. It was still beautiful. But something inside it had changed; it wasn't the same anymore.

Existence with his magnificent presence stood at the edge of the great crystal walkway, staring calmly into the endless glow. The air felt heavy, like it was holding its breath. Angels moved around him, but this time not as they once did. They whispered. They paused when others came close. They looked over their shoulders.

He closed his eyes slowly.

"It has begun," he whispered under his breath.

A soft voice answered behind him. "Yes… it has."

Existence turned. Michael stood there, tall and steady as always, his wings folded neatly behind him. His face was calm, but his eyes were troubled.

"They are taking sides," Michael continued. "Some openly while some in silence."

Existence sighed. "I can feel it within me, Heaven is about to experience a divide."

Michael nodded. "Lucifer is no longer hiding his thoughts. He speaks freely now."

Existence looked up sharply. "Where is he?"

Michael hesitated. "Gathering his alliance"

Not far away, in a wide open hall of light, Lucifer stood surrounded by angels.

He did not shout, He did not rage, He spoke calmly but with confidence and authority.

"This is how change begins," he said, his voice smooth and strong. "Not with anger, but with truth."

The angels listened closely.

With a loud voice he said "We were created powerful with tremendous abilities," Lucifer continued. "Wise. Eternal. Yet we bow. We obey. We wait."

One angel stepped forward. "But obedience is our sole purpose."

Lucifer smiled gently. "Is it? Or is that what we were told?" The angel hesitated.

Lucifer walked slowly among them with elegance as he was. "Tell me, have you never wondered why the Creator rules alone?"

Murmurs spread through the group.

"We help shape all of creation," Lucifer said. "We protect realms. We hold stars in place. Yet when decisions are made, we are silent."

Another angel spoke. "The Creator is all knowing."

Lucifer stopped and looked into his face. "Do you believe knowledge should overthrow freedom?"

Silence filled the gathering.

Lucifer lifted his hands. "I do not wish to destroy heaven. I wish to elevate it. I wish us to stand side by side with the Creator and not beneath Him, not under his control"

Some angels nodded. Others looked disturbed.

"You feel it," Lucifer said softly. "That pull inside you. That question you're afraid to ask."

He turned toward the glowing ceiling. "I am here to ask it on your behalf"

Aura watched from a distance, her light dimmer than usual.

"He's turning them away," she whispered. Existence stood beside her. "Yes."

"Why the Creator does sits in silence and not end this madness at once?" she asked

Existence shook his head slowly. "Because choices has to be made and it must be real." Aura clenched her hands. "But choice can lead to our very destruction."

"Yes," Existence replied. "And that is the risk of freedom."

Later, Michael confronted a group of angels who stood apart from Lucifer's gathering.

"You don't have to decide yet," Michael said. "But you must think clearly, this is a very important decision; it determines the fate of all creation." One angel spoke nervously. "Lucifer says we deserve more than this." Michael's voice remained calm. "Deserving more does not mean taking more."

"But what if he turns out to be right?" another asked. "What if we were meant for more than obedience?" Michael stepped closer. "Purpose is not a cage. It is a calling."

They fell silent within them.

"We were made to protect balance within all creation," Michael continued. "Not to rule it!"

Lucifer felt the shift.

He could feel Michael's presence moving against his influence.

"Brother," Lucifer with a calm soothing tone. He turned sharply as Existence appeared before him.

"Lucifer!" Existence said. "We need to talk." Lucifer crossed his arms. "You've already chosen your side."

"I chose to maintain the balance of all creation…" Existence replied. "And you are breaking it."

Lucifer laughed softly and mischievously. "Balance? Or fear?" Existence's voice tightened. "This path only leads to ruin." Lucifer stepped closer. "No, no… It leads to truth."

"You are dividing heaven," Existence said.

Lucifer met his gaze. "Heaven has always been divided. I simply just exposed it."

Michael joined in the conversation, his wings flaring slightly.

"This ends now!" Michael said. Lucifer turned slowly. "You always did love rules."

Michael's eyes hardened. "And you always hated limits." Lucifer smiled. "Because limits are lies."

Existence raised his voice. "Enough!"

The light around them trembled.

"You are brothers," Existence said. "Do not forget that."

Lucifer's expression softened; for a moment. "Brotherhood should not require silence but support," Lucifer said quietly.

Michael replied, "And freedom should not demand destruction."

Around them, other angels watched. Some moved closer to Lucifer. Others stepped back toward Michael.

The divide was now visible than ever.

Lucifer lifted his voice with charisma. "Choose." The word echoed.

Some angels crossed the space toward him. Others remained still. A few wept.

Aura whispered, "This is it."

Existence closed his eyes.

Far beyond the celestial plain, the Creator watched silently. He did not speak. He did not interfere.

The universe trembled softly; not in fear, but in dispute.

Lucifer turned to those beside him. "We will build something new. Something glorious!"

Michael looked at those who remained. "We have to protect what was given."

Existence stood between both sides, his heart heavy. "This is only the beginning," he said.

And deep within creation, the darkness listened and smiled. The choice had been made. Heaven would never be the same again.

The silence that followed Lucifer's words did not last long.

Angels began to speak, first in whispers, then louder and louder, until the celestial halls were filled with voices clashing like unseen waves.

"This is madness," one angel said, wings trembling. "We were created to serve, not to rule."

Lucifer turned slowly, his eyes calm but burning with quiet fire. "No. You were created to exist! To think. To choose."

Another angel stepped forward, hesitant. "But choice can destroy us."

Lucifer smiled gently. "So can obedience without understanding."

Michael moved closer to Existence, his jaw tight. "You see what he's doing," he whispered. "He's turning doubt into belief."

Existence nodded. "And belief into division."

Lucifer raised his hands, and the hall grew quiet again. "I am not asking you to fight," he said. "Not yet. I am asking you to see. The Creator gave us minds. Why give us minds if not to question?"

An angel near the back spoke up. "Because questioning could lead to pride."

Lucifer's voice softened. "Pride? Why not growth."

Michael stepped forward then, his wings spreading wide, light rippling across them. "Lucifer, enough. You speak of freedom, but you are planting seeds of chaos."

Lucifer looked at his twin, pain flickering across his face. "You always choose order, Michael. Even when it suffocates you ."

"And you always choose fire," Michael replied. "Even when it destroys everything."

The two stood facing each other, twins born of the same light, now standing on opposite paths.

Lucifer turned to those who stood with him. "You do not have to decide now," he said. "But all of creation is changing. And when the time comes, you will need the courage to stand for yourselves."

He looked back at Michael one last time. "I hope, brother, that when that day comes, you will finally understand me."

Michael stand in silence.

Lucifer spread his wings and stepped away, the space around him darkening slightly as he vanished with those who followed him.

The remaining angels stood in stunned silence. Aura spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "He's gone."

"No," Existence said quietly. "He's preparing."

Michael closed his eyes. "Then so must we."

The Creator as always watched; not with anger, but with sorrow. Choice had been given. And now, choice was being used.

The balance trembled.

And the first true shadow of war fell across heaven.
