Standing at the edge of the cliff, Seimei watched as Yukikaze's ashes fluttered down toward the sea, a flicker of regret passing through his eyes.
If Yukikaze hadn't suddenly turned on him, with her help, Seimei figured he could've fused Wind Release and Water Release to develop Ice Release in just half a month.
"Such a shame," Seimei muttered under his breath.
But then again, he realized maybe that's exactly why she made her move. Having spent so much time with him, Yukikaze knew how close he was to succeeding. If he were in her shoes, a prisoner at someone's mercy, he'd probably worry about being silenced once the job was done—tossed aside like a tool no longer needed.
Even if that wasn't the case, as his enemy, Yukikaze definitely wouldn't want him wielding an even stronger power—especially one tied to her clan's kekkei genkai.
So, no matter how you looked at it, her betrayal was inevitable.
As for why she chose the morning to strike? Simple. Every night before resting, Seimei used his Chakra Absorption Technique to drain whatever chakra Yukikaze hadn't used during the day, offsetting the heavy toll of his Flying Thunder God Technique. That meant mornings were when she was at her strongest.
She didn't attack during his first training session of the day to play the part of a compliant ally, lulling him into thinking everything was normal and lowering his guard. And, well, it worked—Seimei had let his vigilance slip. Otherwise, his shadow clone wouldn't have been taken out in a single hit.
But it wasn't a fatal mistake. The S-rank technique he'd poured so much effort into developing—Soul-Sealing Contract Instant Teleportation Seal—was far more powerful than Yukikaze could've imagined. In the end, Seimei came out on top.
Still, as he'd noted, losing Yukikaze's assistance meant his progress on Ice Release would be delayed. It was early April now, and Seimei estimated it'd take until mid-to-late April to complete the fusion.
Before that, though, he planned to push his Sharingan's evolution past (10,000/100,000) and grind his Chakra Refinement Technique to level 7.
With that in mind, Seimei didn't waste any more time. He quickly headed to the underground space where Yukikaze had stayed, erasing every trace she'd left behind. Then he scoured the island, wiping away the strange formations she'd created while demonstrating her Ice Release.
Once that was done, he used the Flying Thunder God Technique to teleport back to the island in the southern seas of the Land of Fire.
From there, it was straightforward—two words summed it up: train hard. It was like Yukikaze never existed. Seimei dove into his solitary grind.
---
Two days passed in a flash.
That afternoon, as Seimei used his Heart Reflection Technique to stimulate his Sharingan's evolution, it felt like he'd pierced through an invisible barrier. In an instant, his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan activated on its own.
The black sun-like pattern in his eyes grew deeper, more intricate. The already crimson pupils surrounding it turned an even more vivid red, like they'd been forged from fresh blood, radiating an intimidating aura.
A surge of power welled up in Seimei's chest. He savored the feeling for a while before snapping out of it, murmuring, "Finally, a breakthrough."
As expected, his mental energy began to grow. He immediately dispelled his Multiple Shadow Clone Technique. Poof, poof, poof! With bursts of chakra smoke, all 180 shadow clones—inside and outside the island—dissipated, their chakra and the past few minutes of training experience and memories flowing back into Seimei's main body.
That's right, 180 shadow clones. After mastering the Spirit Transformation Technique and boosting his mental attribute, that was the number of high-intensity training clones he could sustain at once. And he could already tell that number would increase after this breakthrough.
But that was for later. For now, his priority was absorbing and processing the flood of memories in his mind while adapting to the surge in mental energy.
Time ticked by, second by second.
About half an hour later, Seimei opened his eyes. A sharp glint flashed in them, and an invisible pressure radiated from his body.
Even Seimei couldn't help but marvel. Every small step from the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan toward the Rinnegan felt like a transformation. The boost to his ocular power was undeniable.
If he faced Uchiha Shisui now, even ignoring the fact that his Eternal Mangekyō didn't risk blindness like a regular Mangekyō, Seimei was confident his raw ocular power would overwhelm Shisui's. A few more breakthroughs, and he'd be able to shrug off Shisui's Kotoamatsukami without even needing his Heavenly Guard.
Sure, Kotoamatsukami was called the strongest genjutsu in the ninja world, but all genjutsu relied on the Sharingan and its ocular power. With enough ocular strength, any technique could be overpowered. If you couldn't, it just meant your power wasn't enough.
A flurry of thoughts crossed Seimei's mind before he silently called out, "Status!"
A familiar light blue, semi-transparent panel appeared:

His mental attribute had gone up by one point, from 27 to 28. With it came boosts to his potential and chakra recovery speed.
The former showed in his theoretical chakra ceiling. Seimei focused, fully activating his Chakra Refinement Technique to tap into his potential. After a while, based on the changes in his body, he estimated his new theoretical chakra ceiling and calculated the growth.
But because his mental attribute was so much higher than his physique, the imbalance was growing. This time, his chakra ceiling only increased by 1.45 million points—more than the 1.2 million from when his mental attribute went from 26 to 27 after mastering the Spirit Transformation Technique, but still underwhelming for the effort it took to go from 27 to 28.
Seimei could only hope that boosting his physique later would close the gap and unlock the suppressed potential. Otherwise, he'd be losing out big time. Based on past experience, though, the odds were in his favor, so he wasn't too worried.
Beyond the chakra ceiling, his chakra recovery speed had also improved. Seimei paused his Chakra Refinement Technique, sat quietly on a stone platform, and calculated his natural chakra recovery rate. With his proficiency panel, getting accurate data was easy.
Just like his chakra ceiling, the imbalance between his attributes held back his recovery speed. In about half an hour, his chakra only increased by 102,083 points. At that rate, he could recover 204,166 points per hour, or roughly 4.9 million points in a 24-hour day. Before this, it was 4.2 million.
So, this mental attribute boost gave him an extra 700,000 points of usable chakra per day—better than the 600,000 from last time, but still a bit lackluster for the effort.
Still, 700,000 extra chakra points wasn't nothing. Seimei started thinking about how to allocate them. Pouring it all into Ice Release would speed up its development, but he quickly dismissed the idea. It wasn't that he couldn't handle the extra chakra; it was just inefficient. All his shadow clones were already working on Ice Release, and with his mental boost, he'd soon be able to create even more. But piling on more clones would hit diminishing returns—some efficiency gain, but not worth the chakra cost.
After some thought, Seimei figured allocating 400,000 points to Ice Release, bringing the total to a clean 2 million, would be enough. As for the remaining 300,000? Hoarding it felt like a waste, but he didn't have other skills to train right now.
Wait—suddenly, something clicked. Seimei looked out at the ocean, his gaze piercing through the water to the trench below, where he'd been training his body.
"Maybe it's time for a change of scenery," he murmured.
This was just a coastal area. Sure, some spots were deep, but nothing compared to the open ocean's depths. If he could find a better spot, he could not only burn through that extra chakra but also speed up his physical training. Plus, he'd been on this island long enough. No intruders yet, but switching locations wasn't a bad idea. A clever shinobi always has a backup hideout, right?
No time like the present. Seimei tapped into the chakra stored in his forehead's pocket dimension, topping off his reserves. Then he formed hand signs and used the Shadow Clone Technique. Poof! A clone appeared in a puff of chakra smoke. Sharing Seimei's memories, it didn't need instructions—it activated Wind Release: Wings of Wind and Chakra Cloak, transformed into a streak of blue light, and soared into the sky toward the deep ocean.
On his trips to the Land of Water, Seimei had spotted plenty of islands hidden in the sea. He hadn't studied their environments or surrounding waters closely, but some were bound to make good new bases. The clone's mission was to scout them out.
Back on the stone platform, Seimei turned his attention inward. He drew more chakra from his pocket dimension to refill his reserves, then used the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique. Poof, poof, poof! This time, 190 shadow clones appeared.
That's right—190. He hadn't found a new base yet, but he needed to test his limits now to figure out the optimal number of clones and chakra allocation. That way, once he had a new spot, he could hit the ground running with maximum efficiency.
As the clones dispersed, Seimei raised his hand and activated Lightning Release Chakra Mode. Crackle! A layer of lightning-charged chakra enveloped him, shimmering like a protective film. He extended his senses, locking onto a Flying Thunder God seal in the ocean trench below. With a thought, he triggered the technique.
Whoosh! In an instant, Seimei vanished from the warm, comfortable island and reappeared at the bottom of the cold, oppressive trench. The sudden shift in environment made him frown slightly, but that was minor compared to the pressure change. At hundreds of meters deep, the pressure was dozens of times higher than at the surface. The Lightning Release Chakra Mode flickered and distorted under the water's flow, and Seimei's face flushed red, like blood was rushing to his head.
Early on, it took him a while to adjust to this. Now, just a few breaths later, his expression normalized. Clearly, he was getting used to the pressure. In a month or two—three to five at most—this environment wouldn't faze him at all. It'd stop being a harsh training ground, which was another reason he needed a new spot.
Pushing aside stray thoughts, Seimei confirmed his Palm Sage Technique and Human Guard were functioning normally. Then, following the principles of Lightning Release Chakra Mode, he began his physical training.
Time ticked by, second by second…
