She crossed her arms over her chest again, then immediately uncrossed them, the gesture repeating several times in rapid succession as if her body couldn't decide what position felt right, what posture could possibly contain the chaos inside her.
"But the worst thing these hands almost did..." she continued, her voice shaking, her pacing reaching a fever pitch, moving faster now, almost running in her small circuit around the room, "the worst thing was almost taking away your choice. Your life. Your future. Because I couldn't handle my own pain. Because I wanted to decide for both of us that death was better than this."
She stopped abruptly, facing him, her hands coming up to press against her mouth again, eyes wide and horrified as the full realization of what she'd almost done continued to sink in.
