Even when both were rank 5 gu worms, Shu Zhe's status as Spirit Affinity House's leader was incomparable to Bai Shou's ordinary disciple status. But it was only enough to summon bronze rewards. The true source of status and reputation in the gu world still stemmed from one's aperture!
But the mystery of this random reward could be understood by understanding the effects of attainment. A gu master's attainment of certain path didn't affect their aperture's rank. It was a sense of understanding and mastery, not considered concreate. It was a mystical realm that couldn't be explained with words alone.
So, even if Bai Shou happened to possess grandmaster-level attainments in a few paths, it wouldn't affect the quality of the reward.
What it did affect was the randomness of the reward.
Earlier, when Bai Shou had little to no attainment, she could expect a certain order to the rewards she gained. Mo Yao often gave shadow path resources or investigation-type gu worms once Bai Shou advanced to rank 2, leaving the curse of Rank 1 Copper Relic Gu Worms behind. By the virtue of being married to Fang Zheng, who had great aptitude while having none herself, Shen Cui's rewards summoned tantalizing talent-enhancing gu worms and recipes.
So, there was an order. Bai Shou could predict things.
But not anymore.
It certainly wasn't a bad thing, and Bai Shou wouldn't knowingly find ways to lower her attainment to regain that order. It was a worthwhile trade.

Bai Shou first inspected Rank 5 Memory Beans Gu. It was… good. Well, its use was quite simple. Rank 5 Memory Beans formed several Rank 4 Memorize Mantra Gu. Each Rank 4 Memorize Mantra Gu, once ingested, sharpened a gu master's memory retention for a month, best used when memorizing materials as tall as mountains! But to Bai Shou, it had a greater use.

When Bai Shou retrieves the rewards, it's not registered as 'rewards' in the gu continent but 'refinement' or creation of certain materials—each accepting the new regional qi!
'And this leads to the next matter.'

So, I did get more rewards related to southern border. Well, it didn't impact the trait in any meaningful manner. But Bai Shou always kept a sharp eye on her trait to understand it better.

Bai Shou's eyes widened the second she identified the silhouette in the stream of light. She quickly reached out before the strange creature could fall on her lap.
This gu worm had an extremely strange shape. Its skin was rough and scarred. In fact, the gu worm looked similar to a sleeping infant but looked quite big for one.
