Chapter 27 - Elias

She was glowing.

Not in a romantic, flowery kind of way. No, Luna glowed like fire trapped in a glass bottle — heat simmering beneath the surface, ready to explode. I watched her all night. Watched the way her fingers trembled when she picked up her glass. The way she pressed her palm to her stomach when she thought no one was looking.

But I was looking.

I was always looking.

She was carrying something inside her.

My something.

It was a theory at first. An itch at the back of my mind. But now, it was certainty. I'd memorized every inch of her body — I knew what she looked like before. And this… this was different.

I wanted to say something. Part of me wanted to reach across the table and demand her truth. But I didn't. I let her keep her little secret. Let her squirm in her guilt. Let her cling to her friendship with Lila like it could save her.

She had no idea she was already mine.

No idea that I'd been planning this for years.

And now… she'd given me the one thing I never expected to have.

A life. Our life.

I smiled as I poured her wine and leaned in just a little too close. "You look pale tonight," I whispered.

She flinched.

I wanted to laugh. But I only smiled wider.

The game was ending.

And I'd already won.
