Chapter 8 - 8

AVENGERS TOWER

In the Avengers Tower, where the planet's most powerful heroes gathered, a meeting was underway to discuss actions regarding one of the team's former members—now accused of murder, assault, and collusion with criminals.

"Tony, we can't let that red-and-blue-suited menace run loose. We need to capture him for interrogation." Hawkeye's fury was palpable, frustrated that his teammates couldn't agree on how to handle who he saw as one of New York's greatest threats.

"Clint, you know we can't act impulsively when the truth isn't clear," Steve Rogers countered, disagreeing with Clint's proposed approach.

"Steve, Clint's right. As much as you want to wait for the thieves' interrogation results, it's better to capture Spider-Man directly—preferably in his civilian phase." Tony's tone dripped with arrogance as he sided with Clint.

"Tony, can't you drop your arrogance for once and see what's at stake? We're talking about unmasking Spider-Man! Your damn selfish greed for money and power blinds you to what that would mean for Peter!" Jessica Drew's angry voice cut through the room.

Of course, Jessica wasn't the only one reacting harshly. The moment Tony suggested interrogating Spider-Man in the tower, everyone stared at him as if he were a power-crazed lunatic—even Clint, who disliked the web-slinger, wouldn't allow such madness.

"Tony, Jessica's right. Don't think we don't know why you want to expose Peter's identity. We're not stupid," Carol Danvers snapped, her anger echoing across the room. No one stepped in to mediate.

"Now I see why the Spider-Lord ceased attending our weekly meetings." Thor rose, ready to leave. He refused to share a room with someone so untrustworthy.

"Let's table the Spider-Man mission for now," Natasha interjected, trying to ease the tension—until the screen displaying a map of New York suddenly glitched to static.

"That shouldn't be happening," Gwen-65 muttered, alarmed.

"Avengers, suit up. Nat, we'll discuss your point later. For now, stay sharp—we don't know what's disrupting the signal." Captain America's voice was firm; even Tony's tech shouldn't fail like this.

"I'll prep transport." Tony's annoyed tone was unmistakable. He knew this was likely another villain hacking his firewalls to announce their grand plan.

The others followed Steve's lead, bracing for trouble—interruptions like this were practically routine.

"Who are you?" Spider-Man's voice crackled through the speakers.

The sudden sound of their former teammate's voice sent a new wave of tension through the room.

Everyone knew: if a teammate's voice was broadcast like this, they were in danger.

"You came back, Spider. Seems waiting a year to strike a deal wasn't a waste of time."

At that voice, Gwen-65, Jessica Drew, and Miles Morales froze, trembling uncontrollably—especially Jessica, who fought back a scream clawing at her mind, her panic so severe it triggered pregnancy complications.

The other Avengers reacted instantly. Thor blasted the screen with lightning, destroying it, while the rest rushed to the spiders' aid.

After a moment of sheer terror, the spiders steadied, though still shaking.

"Alright, sorry for the bluntness, but WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED TO YOU?!" Tony's attempt at calm failed miserably. Beneath his ego, he did care.

The room stayed silent, waiting for an explanation.

"We have to save Spider-Man," Gwen pleaded, her face pale. Miles and Jessica nodded urgently.

"Forgive my lack of empathy, but didn't Spider-Man quit the team?" Wanda remarked, having just arrived amid the chaos.

"You don't understand—that voice belongs to one of the worst Spider-villains in the multiverse. A top-tier Spider-Slayer. And right now, he's with Spider-Man." Gwen bolted for the door, Jessica and Miles right behind her.

The moment "multiverse" was mentioned, the Avengers knew the stakes. Without hesitation, every available hero rushed to the Quinjet, where Tony ordered JARVIS to locate Spider-Man—last seen near the George Washington Bridge.
