Chapter 53 - DW: The Mechanic Chapter 44

The elevator had stopped, and the doors had opened, revealing a massive room with numerous connecting doors, rather than the usual hallway. That's not the most unusual thing; the ceiling is high enough to fit three average-sized human beings on top of each other, which, if you ask me, is not normal.

Walking into the room with Alice behind me, I start to observe every little detail of the room. Despite the high ceiling, the furniture is of a more normal size. Not long after entering, the elevator slams shut, preventing us from turning back.

Whatever was here did not want us escaping, just as I was thinking of how to handle the situation, a voice echoes throughout the room," Well, I never expected a Time lord to come here, I thought you would be like the others who came here out of curiosity, but unable to do anything here. You, however, may be able to do what they could not".

Now I was curious, this voice sounded non-hostile, but what stood out was the exhaustion in the voice as if it had given up, "What do you mean, do what they could not? What happened to those who came here?" The voice sighs before speaking again, "They joined me in my imprisonment". Hence, the voice was a prisoner, but why " why were you imprisoned" the voice's voice shift into one of anger "my people sort war but I refused as did my followers, so the leaders of my race imprisoned me, due to my unique ability that prevented them killing me, my followers however were killed".

Hearing his words, Alice looks at me with pity on her face. I know what's coming " we need to help them we can't just leave them trapped can we" I can only sigh and ask the critical question " what's your race called" the Voice as if understanding why I asked speaks " do not worry I have no relation to the Daleks, my race are called Shakra" hearing his words I freeze. However, this race was not one that every Time Lord knows about, a race of beings who take pleasure in killing. Not only that, but there were rumours of a peace-loving Shakra, but everyone thought it was just a rumour.

Now, face to well voice the rumors were true, as for the reason his race did not kill him its relatively simple they couldn't, he was connected to their home world to the point his death meant the death of the planet, some psychic link between him and the planet, no one knew why or how it came to be, it was just there.

As for the fate of his Race, well, they met the Daleks, and I think you can guess how that ended, his entire race wiped out, which should have destroyed the seal that imprisoned him, but it did not meaning one thing they used his own connection to his planet to seal him meaning the seal will never fade, unless the planet was destroyed.

As for freeing him, it's relatively easy for me. His race was technology-based, meaning the seal that keeps him imprisoned is also tech-based. With my mechanical force, I could release him with little effort, but something tells me that not everything is as it seems. Every prison has a warden, which means that something is here that was left to prevent the voice's escape.

"Where is your warden, since I doubt they will have left you without one" the voice laughs before speaking " as expected of a Time Lord you are smart, good you will need it, as for my warden" his voice takes a sad turn " he was once my best friend but his thirst for glory allowed my Race to corrupt him turning him into a mindless being with one sole purpose prevent my release. Currently, he sleeps, but the moment you approach the device that keeps me here, he will awaken and hunt you down.

Unfortunately, unlike the others, I can't prevent him from killing anyone else. I used all my strength pulling those who were about to die by his hand into my prison".

Hearing that the warden was a corrupted Shakra, my face went pale. That's not just bad, it's like having to face an army of Daleks, corrupt Shakra are not only single minded but they were also stronger than usual, heck even Daleks stood no chance against one, luckily corrupted Shakra were rare, and usually was hunted down before they became a problem by the other races of the universe.

Yet here one was alive and kicking, and according to my knowledge, the Shakra were killed just before the start of the Time War, 400 years in linear time, but with at least another 200 more when you consider that it took place using time travel.

That means this one is more than four hundred years old, at the very least. And this guy expects me to beat something that not even a Dalek would struggle with, it's at that point that I realise something, "was he corrupted naturally or used a machine?" My words catch both the voice of the guard and Alice.

"if memory serves right my people put a device in him that slowly corrupted him why does it make a difference" I can only smile because of course it made a difference the device did not only cause corruption it prevented it from fading meaning that the wardens not a true corrupt Shakra if that device it destroyed them the mind will naturally fight the corruption, this is what the device is stopping.

"We may be able to save him as well if what you just said is true, that device is the root cause, destroying it will not only stop your friend it will also allow his mind to fight back, the device cuts the mind off to make corruption easier, however by doing so you prevent the mind from being corrupted, and every life form knows that the mind controls the body freeing it will allow the uncorrupted mind to forcefully dispose of the corruption, not only that your friend mid has had more than four hundred years to analyze the corruption" my words cause the voice to grasp in surprise realise what my words imply, His friend would be able to identify what made the corruption increase the strength of his body, meaning he would be able to recreate the increase using science, allowing for the increase in strength without the madness.

With a plan in mind I tell Alice to wait here while I make my way to the largest door, where both the device and the warden was being held, as for the voice, unfortunately his physical body had long faded, only his soul remained trapped by the seal, as for the victims well that's what the other doors were, each door represents a person who is trapped hear and I counted more than 35 doors not including the one where the device and warden were.

Taking a deep breath, I open the door. What greets me is a massive titan with a crazed look on its face, and yes, I said Titan; these creatures were as large as the Titans in Greek mythology. The room's ceiling was so high that it was difficult even to estimate its height.

Focusing on the Titan, I send my mechanical force towards it before it can react. I have identified the machine causing all the Shakra's problems, and with a single thought, I cause the machine to shut off by erasing the code within it. Unfortunately, it takes about 95% of my mental strength, causing me to collapse to the ground.

Alice sees this come running towards me while the voice speaks, "Mechanical Force, I never expected the one to save me would possess such a rare gift, Before I am free to listen to my warning, your ability is more than meets the eye, it's an energy given form from your own mind. But that energy has to come from somewhere, be careful what you do with it and who you show it to, many would do anything to acquire the genetic code that would give them the ability to use your gift". With those words said, I know he is ready to be free.

Looking at Alice, I nod at her, understanding my meaning, she walks towards the device, as for why this device was more primitive than I thought, it had a power switch on it, like who would do that when it was used for imprisoning someone, it's like they thought no one would ever get past their warden.

Alice hits the switch and a bright light caused us both to cover our eyes, when the light finally dies down I found myself in a hallway filled with room numbers, turning off the device must have reverted the rood to the original layout instead, as for the warden, I knew his fate was the same as the voice, his body had been corrupted for more than 400 years even with his mind intact the moment he fought off the corruption his body would succumb to the damage it sustained due to the corruption he would live a few years at best.

As for where he was, the device most likely sent him home. The device was initially intended to be a means of transporting the injured by sealing them, thereby preventing them from causing further harm to themselves. At the same time, they are transported to a medical facility, but the Shakra had modified it, which is probably why the voice was able to save the others who entered the floor.

As I was thinking, I heard the voices of others, whom I assumed were the ones who were trapped on the thirteenth floor. Alice was already next to me, helping me up, as I looked at all the other humans who were groaning.

Looking at Alice, I tell her to take me to the emergency contact phone that's on this floor, just like the others, which also have one, it's right in the middle of the floor, which just so happens to be where the device put us, so moving me to the phone, so I can contact the Resort staff to come collect the guest we had just saved.

Not long after, the staff can be seen approaching the people who are still disoriented, accompanied by medical personnel. My only thought, however, is that now I can enjoy my vacation, now that this is settled. And that's precisely what I did after the staff finished expressing their gratitude for solving a problem that had been causing the issues. My stay was extended by another week at no additional charge. Not that I paid in the first place, but I was not going to complain.
